Of adults from 35 to 44, 85% in Louisiana, 75% in Missouri, 78% in Iowa, and 74% in Kansas said they supported parental curriculum access before enrollment.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The polling surveyed between 500 and 768 voters in each state and was conducted in late March and early April by Sherpa Public Affairs. Each state\u2019s survey had a 3.5% and 4.4% margin of error.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Curriculum transparency has become a hot-button issue for many parents across the country in the last year.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In March, the Iowa legislature\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.carrollspaper.com\/news\/local-legislators-speak-on-education-bills-requiring-more-transparency-from-public-teachers\/article_533ce478-bf24-11ec-9d67-6774907de7ed.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">considered<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0several versions of a bill that would have required public schools to give parents access to their classroom materials and library catalogs.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Around the same time, Missouri\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.news-leader.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2022\/06\/09\/missouri-ag-demands-springfield-public-schools-provide-student-surveys-document-portal-race-gender\/7556679001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">considered<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0a similar \u201cparents\u2019 bill of rights,\u201d one version of which would have allowed parents to sue public school districts for violating parents\u2019 rights to access school curriculums.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL)\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wftv.com\/news\/local\/happening-this-morning-gov-desantis-speak-daytona-beach\/IBOZKTZXXFD37KGVALI5RQW4EM\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">signed<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0a curriculum transparency bill in late March, while bills in other states have stalled.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Some parents have found themselves in nightmare situations over this issue. When Rhode Island mom Nicole Solas asked her school district what her kindergartener would be learning, she got sued by a major teachers union.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cWhen I called the school and asked, they said that they don\u2019t call children \u2018boys\u2019 and \u2018girls,\u2019\u201d she <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.goldwaterinstitute.org\/our-childrens-education-is-not-a-game-we-need-academic-transparency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">said<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. \u201cThey said that they refrained from using gendered terminology in the classroom, and that they embed the values of gender identity into the classroom at every grade at an age-appropriate level. When I asked about Critical Race Theory, they said that they teach 5 year olds on the first Thanksgiving, this ridiculous question where they say, \u2018What could have been done differently on the first Thanksgiving?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The school district informed Solas that the public records she requested on the curriculum would cost $74,000, and she was sued by the nation\u2019s largest public-sector teachers union, the National Education Association.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Even public school teachers have spoken out about the transparency issues they have observed.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Kali Fontanilla was a high school English language teacher in the Salinas, California, school district when she\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.goldwaterinstitute.org\/teacher-blows-the-whistle-on-critical-race-theory-in-california-schools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">blew the whistle<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0on Critical Race Theory (CRT) content in her classroom.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">During the pandemic lockdown, Fontanilla was sharing the online remote learning platform when her fellow teachers noticed that her students were failing their required ethnic studies course, including about 50% of the boys. When she looked at the curriculum, she was alarmed to find what she described as \u201cCritical Race Theory 101 for my students,\u201d including the definition of critical race theory, implicit bias, and inherent racism.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cI think what has happened is our public school systems and the curriculum makers have gone unchecked for so long,\u201d Fontanilla told The Daily Wire. \u201cAnd we just let it happen like that frog in a boiling pot and it\u2019s slowly heating up. We didn\u2019t even realize, and now the water is boiling and we\u2019re like, our kids are being damaged currently. And so we need to do a lot of work to undo all of this garbage that\u2019s in our schools right now, and on top of it, our kids are failing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Eventually, Fontanilla resigned from her teaching position and started her own fully accredited\u00a0<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">academy<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thinkexodus.org\/about\">Exodus Institute<\/a>, which includes a K-12 online school.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Overwhelming majorities in four states want more transparency regarding children\u2019s school curriculums, according to new polling provided exclusively to The Daily Wire.
