Adam Schiff of California Sunday about the Jan. 6 Select Committee\u2019s refusal to hand over evidence to the Justice Department.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo many people watching your committee hearings are asking, what is going to come of this?\u201d Bash asked Schiff on \u201cState of the Union.\u201d \u201cIs the Justice Department going to file criminal charges? First question is, why haven\u2019t you given everything over to the Justice Department that they are asking for and they say they need in order to potentially do that?\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/17\/cnn-toobin-goldman-trump-capitol-riot\/\">(RELATED: \u2018What We Need Are Facts\u2019: CNN Legal Analysts Deliver A Reality Check When It Comes To Charging Trump)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think Congress has ever done that, and I have been participating now in several investigations where there have been parallel investigations done by the Justice Department,\u201d Schiff said. \u201cCongress never says, \u2018Hey, Justice Department, other branch of government, just come and go through our files.\u2019 We also don\u2019t say, \u2018Hey, we want to go over and just rifle through your files.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Jan. 6 <a href=\"https:\/\/january6th.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">committee<\/a> held three hearings since June 9, with multiple liberal media outlets <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/14\/media-trump-fraud-msnbc-cnn\/\">hyping<\/a> the possibility of fraud charges against former President Donald Trump after the second hearing. Republican Reps. Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, both outspoken critics of Trump, were <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/26\/kevin-mccarthy-pelosi-cheney-kinzinger-jan-6-committee-congress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">appointed<\/a> to the committee by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi after Republicans boycotted the panel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHave you seen evidence that the Justice Department has already opened an investigation into the former president?\u201d Bash asked Schiff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have not seen, for example, grand juries convene in places where I would think they would be convened if they were looking at some of the conduct, for example, that Judge Carter in California wrote he believed that Donald Trump was engaged in multiple acts that violate the criminal laws,\u201d Schiff said.<\/p>\n<p>Schiff and the Justice Department did not respond to requests for comment from The Daily Caller News Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
