To a tweet that said, &#8220;Keep buying it then,&#8221; he responded, &#8220;I am.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"Enhancement\">\n<div class=\"Enhancement-item\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I will keep supporting Dogecoin<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Elon Musk (@elonmusk) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1538406040374595585?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 19, 2022<\/a>\n             <\/p><\/blockquote><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Dogecoin, a cryptocurrency founded in 2013 based on a Shiba Inu dog meme, hit a peak of about 74 cents in May of last year. Musk has embraced Dogecoin, but <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/05\/10\/tech\/spacex-dogecoin-mission-scn\/index.html\">a sell-off<\/a> took place that same month after a <i>Saturday Night Live<\/i> sketch in which Musk said the coin was &#8220;a hustle.&#8221; The value of Dogecoin has since dropped to approximately 5 cents, rising just a little bit around the time of Musk&#8217;s tweets early Sunday.<\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/policy\/space\/spacex-employees-fired-letter-elon-musk\">SPACEX FIRES EMPLOYEES WHO CRITICIZED ELON MUSK CONDUCT: REPORT<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The price of Dogecoin <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/01\/14\/dogecoin-jumps-after-elon-musk-says-its-can-be-used-buy-tesla-merch.html\">briefly jumped<\/a> in January after Musk announced Tesla would accept the cryptocurrency for some merchandise. SpaceX, a spaceflight company also run by Musk, was accepting Dogecoin as payment for an upcoming mission to the moon, CNBC reported in May 2021, and a year later, Musk said SpaceX would soon join Tesla in <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/05\/27\/elon-musk-says-spacex-accepting-dogecoin-soon-joining-tesla\/\">accepting Dogecoin for merchandise purchases<\/a>. Musk, Tesla, and SpaceX were sued in federal court in Manhattan last week for $258 billion.
