Since the incident, three males \u2014 Donovon Jones, 21; Tyler Stafford, 19; and Deshawn Stafford Jr., 20 \u2014 have been arrested in connection to Ethan\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re at the \u2018I Promise\u2019 school in Akron, Ohio,\u201d one of Ethan\u2019s friends says in a call placed at 10:42 p.m. on the night of the incident, Fox News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/ethan-liming-911-call-prompts-more-questions-about-17-year-olds-beating-death\">reported<\/a>. \u201cOur friend just got knocked out. We don\u2019t know what to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHey, man. We\u2019re sorry, man. We didn\u2019t mean it,\u201d a voice says to someone other than the operator. The voice sounds like the male friend who called 911, but it\u2019s not entirely clear.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs there a fight going on?\u201d the operator asks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUh, there was,\u201d Ethan\u2019s friend responds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOkay, are the other people still there?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah,\u201d the friend says, as other voices are heard in the background. \u201cIt\u2019s okay, though \u2014 it\u2019s cool now, it\u2019s cool now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The friend then identifies Ethan as unconscious when asked by the operator, later adding,\u00a0\u201cyeah, he\u2019s breathing, he\u2019s breathing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More indiscernible words are said as the call continues, and one person says, \u201cI\u2019m not trying to fight, though.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The friend tells the operator Ethan is 17 years old right before the call abruptly ends.<\/p>\n<p>After trying to get the friend back on the line, the operator reportedly called the same number back, but got no answer.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Bill Liming, the father of the killed teen, told\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.news5cleveland.com\/news\/local-news\/akron-canton-news\/family-of-akron-teen-found-beaten-to-death-plead-for-someone-to-come-forward\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News 5 Cleveland<\/a>\u00a0earlier this month that his son\u2019s two friends, who are black, tried to rescue Ethan while he was still breathing, but were chased and assaulted by the perpetrators, who then \u201cfinished my son off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been said that they abandoned Ethan and it\u2019s not true,\u201d Bill said. \u201cThey did everything they possibly could to help Ethan. They called 911 to get help. And when Ethan was knocked out on the ground, his two African-American friends tried to pick up his body and put them in the car, to help save his life. He was still alive at that point. He was still breathing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis friends tried to help him and they drove them away eventually \u2014 not before calling 911. They called, they tried to get help for him.
