Within the message are various science principles, written in binary code \u2013 like basic mathematics, chemistry, and Earth biology.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Scientists plan to send a message to any life that might be listening in our Milky Way. If they exist, I suppose there may be some concern that our alien neighbors might get our message and swipe left instead of right on our little intergalactic Tinder pic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">This isn\u2019t the first time we\u2019ve beamed a message into space on purpose. In 2017 we transmitted a message to \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/mach\/science\/we-just-beamed-signal-space-aliens-was-bad-idea-ncna822446\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Luyten\u2019s Star<\/a>\u2018 12 light-years away, and in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/storyline\/the-big-questions\/why-these-scientists-fear-contact-space-aliens-n717271\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2008 NASA broadcast<\/a> the Beatles hit song, \u2018Across the Universe.\u2019\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The first attempt was made in 1974. Called the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arecibo_message#:~:text=The%20Arecibo%20message%20is%20an,into%20a%20conversation%20with%20extraterrestrials.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arecibo message<\/a>, it contained information like atomic numbers, an image of our solar system, an image of man, and an image of the Arecibo telescope.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The Arecibo Message was sent to the globular star cluster M13 a day like today 47 years ago. I\u2019ve seen Predator, Aliens, and Alien vs. Predator. Am I the only one that hears Billy Bob Thornton\u2019s character from Armageddon when he tells the President, \u201cBeggin your pardon, but it\u2019s a big ass sky\u201d in reference to why NASA didn\u2019t see the huge Earth-ending asteroid?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Some think this move is just an attempt to try to legitimize claims made by the Department of Defense that they aren\u2019t hiding evidence on UAPs. The Galileo Project is meant to search for artifacts from extraterrestrial technological civilizations (ETCs) or what they call technosignatures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">If you don\u2019t know what that means, it\u2019s okay; neither do I. From what I could gather, they are looking for E.T.\u2019s bumper that might\u2019ve fallen off his ship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">All kidding aside, it is an exciting concept and, at $1.8 million, is certainly better funded than NASA\u2019s study. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/galileo-project-search-for-extraterrestrial-artifacts-announcement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to Mr. Loeb<\/a>, the goal is to <\/span>\u201c\u2026clear the fog through a transparent and scientific analysis by assembling our own data, not data based on government-owned sensors, because most of that data is classified.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.science.org\/content\/article\/why-is-harvard-astrophysicist-working-with-ufo-buffs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Some in the science community applaud his efforts<\/a>. For example, Gregory Lauchlin, a Yale astrophysicist, said:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cHe has mounted a scientific attack on a problem that is frustratingly fuzzy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Still, others have quite a bit of criticism. Such as Columbia University astrophysicist Caleb Scharf said:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cHe\u2019s intermingled legitimate scientists with these fringe people.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The \u2018fringe\u2019 people he\u2019s referring to are folks like former UK Ministry of Defense official and Ancient Aliens frequent guest Nick Pope and Pentagon rabble-rouser and former AATIP (Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program) member Luis Elizondo.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Ah, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Tsoukalos?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Tsoukalos<\/a> meets <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/davidduchovny?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@davidduchovny<\/a>; that Aliens meme guy pictured with Fox. Mankind has been doing it since as far back as we can find records. Perhaps it\u2019s a need not to feel alone, to find meaning and purpose, or maybe we can\u2019t help but wonder.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The search for what UAPs are and if we are alone or not is not easy. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencenews.org\/article\/ufo-science-research-uap-congress-pentagon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Astrobiologist Jacob Haqq Misra<\/a> said of all the recent endeavors:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of public discourse about other topics like crop circles, alien abductions and paranormal stories that muddy the waters\u2026\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Did China find proof of alien life? I doubt it, but then again, I question just about anything from China. I\u2019m a skeptic in general. But I think it\u2019s important to keep looking up and searching for whatever might be out there.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Let\u2019s just hope they don\u2019t try to exterminate us when\u2019 they\u2019 arrive.
