It\u2019s one of the reasons that DeSantis was <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/collection\/100-most-influential-people-2022\/6177679\/ron-desantis\/\">named<\/a> as one of TIME Magazine\u2019s \u201c100 Most Influential People of 2022.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The false reporting originated from McClatchy DC, which claimed that \u201cDeSantis is now allowing healthcare providers, including pediatricians and children\u2019s hospitals, to order COVID-19 vaccines from a federal program for children between six months and 5 years old, a reversal from earlier this week, White House officials told McClatchy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are encouraged that after repeated failures by Governor DeSantis to order COVID-19 vaccines even after every other state had ordered, the State of Florida is now permitting healthcare providers to order COVID-19 vaccines for our youngest children,\u201d White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who has a history of making <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RNCResearch\/status\/1536447196438138883\">false<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/statesman\/status\/1537465080316678145\">claims<\/a>, said in a statement. \u201cWe believe it is critical to allow parents everywhere to have the choice to get their kids vaccinated and have a conversation with their pediatrician or healthcare provider.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though Governor DeSantis reversed course and is now ordering vaccines, we will pull every lever to get pediatricians across Florida vaccines as quickly as possible,\u201d she further claimed. \u201cThis is an encouraging first step, and we urge the state to order vaccines for its state and local health departments, so that all Florida parents have the opportunity to get their children vaccinated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Joseph A. Ladapo, MD, PhD, State Health Officer &#038; Surgeon General of Florida, slammed the Biden administration in a statement on Friday afternoon over the false claims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFL never \u2018reversed course\u2019,\u201d Ladapo wrote. \u201cWe recommended against COVID-19 vax for healthy children in March [because] there was no strong evidence of benefit. Ladapo, MD, PhD (@FLSurgeonGen) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FLSurgeonGen\/status\/1537880886300946433?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 17, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis <a href=\"https:\/\/grabien.com\/getmedia.php?id=1565789&#038;key=80e01c0724d92cf7ee06e4372c7374ff&#038;userid=19835\">stated<\/a> earlier this week that he was not \u201cbanning\u201d the vaccine for children under 5 in the state and that \u201cpeople can access it if they want to and parents can do so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoctors can get it, hospitals can get it but there\u2019s not going to be any state programs, that are going to be trying to, you know, get COVID jabs to infants and toddlers and newborns,\u201d DeSantis said. \u201cThat\u2019s not something that we think is appropriate. And so that\u2019s not where we\u2019re going to be utilizing our resources in that regard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis press secretary Christina Pushaw noted that the \u201conly thing that\u2019s changed was the federal government (FDA) issued the EUA [Emergency Use Authorization] for the shots today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, there must be FDA approval or an EUA for the system to process orders from healthcare providers,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">No state policy change in Florida.
