There is no record of Trump issuing such a statement.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Members of the U.S. House select committee are currently holding a series of public hearings to investigate \u201cthe facts, circumstances and causes relating to the Jan. 6, 2021, domestic terrorist attack,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/explain\/2022\/jan-6-hearings-explained?name=styln-capitol-mob&#038;region=TOP_BANNER&#038;block=storyline_menu_recirc&#038;action=click&#038;pgtype=LegacyCollection&#038;variant=show&#038;is_new=false\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The New York Times<\/a>. There is likewise no mention of the statement on Trump\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">account<\/a> on Truth Social. Check Your Fact found no <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=trump+statement+flush+january+6+notes&#038;sxsrf=ALiCzsbV46tknKKUcmsbvbyuHZTIuLOlIw:1655413534259&#038;source=lnms&#038;tbm=nws&#038;sa=X&#038;ved=2ahUKEwjAuan977L4AhWqD1kFHYVHC0QQ_AUoAXoECAEQAw&#038;cshid=1655413607446408&#038;biw=1536&#038;bih=722&#038;dpr=1.25\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">credible news reports<\/a> to corroborate the authenticity of the alleged message.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The fabricated letter appears to allude to an allegation made by New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman that Trump would flush notes and documents down the toilet when he was president, a violation of the Presidential Records Act, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/trump-reportedly-terrified-accusations-he-flushed-official-documents-1678196\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Newsweek<\/a>.
