The footage has nothing to do with the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The U.S. is planning to give Ukraine two Harpoon anti-ship coastal defense systems as part of its new $1 billion military aid package to the country, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navalnews.com\/naval-news\/2022\/06\/u-s-sending-harpoon-anti-missiles-to-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Naval News<\/a>. Ukraine sank the Moskva, Russia\u2019s Black Sea flagship, back in April with Neptune anti-ship missiles, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-us-canada-61343044\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BBC News<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>The May 7 Facebook video allegedly shows a Russian warship being hit and sunk by missiles. The video includes audio of someone speaking in Russian. \u201cRussian warships targeted by missiles,\u201d reads the video\u2019s caption. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/04\/15\/fact-check-ukrainian-missile-russian-ship-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: No, This Is Not Footage Of A Ukrainian Missile Blowing Up A Russian Naval Vessel)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The footage predates the current conflict in Ukraine, however, and does not show a Russian warship being hit. A reverse image search found the footage first appeared on YouTube in a 2016 video <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/uXk8JAQ-370?t=124\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">titled<\/a> \u201cEx-Navy Warship Hit By Missiles &#038; Torpedoes \u2022 RIMPAC 2016.\u201d<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>\u201cAerial view of the decommissioned USS Thach (FFG-43) being hit by missiles and torpedoes during a live-fire sinking exercise (SINKEX) as part of RIMPAC 2016 near Hawaii,\u201d reads part of the description. News outlets, like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedrive.com\/the-war-zone\/4450\/this-retired-perry-class-frigate-just-wont-sink-after-being-severely-pummeled-during-rimpac-16\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Drive<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/news.usni.org\/2016\/07\/18\/video-former-frigate-uss-thach-sunk-live-fire-exercise\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">USNI News<\/a>, reported on the Thatch\u2019s sinking back in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>There have been no recent reports of Ukraine sinking any Russian warships besides the Moskva, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oryxspioenkop.com\/2022\/03\/list-of-naval-losses-during-2022.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oryx<\/a>, an open-source military analyst website that tracks combat losses. There are likewise no credible <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=Ukraine+sinks+Russian+Warship&#038;oq=Ukraine+sinks+Russian+Warship&#038;aqs=chrome..69i57j69i60.5404j0j1&#038;sourceid=chrome&#038;ie=UTF-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">news reports<\/a> suggesting any Russian warships have recently been sunk.<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time footage of a warship has been falsely attributed to the current conflict in Ukraine.
