A Kenyan media outlets confirmed the alleged quote is misattributed.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Kenyan Deputy President William Ruto, who is running for president in the county\u2019s upcoming presidential election, recently selected Gachagua as his running mate, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-africa-61455270\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BBC News<\/a>. A post shared on Facebook claims Gachagua recently made a statement in support of traditional medicine.<\/p>\n<p>The post includes an image of the politician along with a quote attributed to him that reads, \u201cWe will empower traditional doctors and medicine men with training so that they can treat patients in areas where clinics are far and areas where there are no hospitals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In reality, none of his <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%22empower%20traditional%20doctors%20and%20medicine%20men%22%20(from%3Arigathi)&#038;src=typed_query&#038;f=top\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social media<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/profile\/100057148162198\/search\/?q=We%20will%20empower%20Traditional%20doctors%20and%20medicine%20men%2C%20so%20that%20they%20can%20attend%20to%20and%20treat%20patients%20in%20areas%20where%20clinics%20are%20far%20and%20areas%20where%20there%20are%20no%20hospitals.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pages<\/a> contain the aforementioned statement. There is likewise no mention of it on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.parliament.go.ke\/search\/node?keys=We+will+empower+Traditional+doctors+and+medicine+men%2C+so+that+they+can+attend+to+and+treat+patients+in+areas+where+there+are+no+\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a> of Kenya\u2019s parliament, where Gachagua currently serves as an MP.
