The meeting is the first time he has addressed all employees, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-06-16\/musk-tells-staff-twitter-should-allow-pretty-outrageous-tweets#xj4y7vzkg\">Bloomberg<\/a>, likely signaling that the acquisition arrangement is nearing completion.<\/p>\n<p>The New York Times technology correspondent Mike Isaac <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2022\/06\/16\/technology\/elon-musk-twitter-meeting?smid=url-share#7d644a22-d706-5b5a-a8e6-551ee6677d35\">reported<\/a> that Twitter employees had the opportunity to submit questions to Musk over the past few days. Musk reportedly said during the meeting, which Twitter Chief Marketing Officer Leslie Berland moderated, that he wants to prioritize \u201cfreedom of speech, and freedom of reach.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Musk has frequently commented on the need for Twitter \u2014 and mainstream Americans at large \u2014 to reaffirm their commitments to freedom of speech.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans,\u201d Musk <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/elon-musk-torches-mainstream-institutions-for-extreme-antibody-reaction-to-free-speech\">said<\/a> in April, adding that the \u201cextreme antibody reaction from those who fear free speech says it all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the meeting, Musk expressed concern about costs exceeding revenues and signaled a willingness to dismiss unproductive employees. \u201cIf somebody is getting useful things done, that\u2019s great,\u201d he said, according to The New York Times. \u201cIf they aren\u2019t getting useful things done, then why are they at the company?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Several employees also asked Musk about remote work \u2014 likely because the entrepreneur recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/elon-musk-has-a-super-bad-feeling-about-the-economy-wants-a-massive-layoff-at-tesla\">told<\/a> Tesla staff that \u201cremote work is no longer\u201d acceptable at the automaker. \u201cIf there are particularly exceptional contributors for whom this is impossible, I will review and approve those exceptions directly,\u201d he said to Tesla executives, remarking that the workplace \u201cmust be a main Tesla office, not a remote branch office unrelated to the job duties, for example being responsible for Fremont factory human relations, but having your office in another state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, Musk told Twitter employees that it is \u201cmuch better if you are on location physically.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The multibillionaire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/elon-musk-has-a-super-bad-feeling-about-the-economy-wants-a-massive-layoff-at-tesla\">said<\/a> two weeks ago that he has a \u201csuper bad feeling\u201d about the global economy and told Tesla executives that they should prepare to lay off 10% of staff and \u201cpause all hiring worldwide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the days after Musk purchased a substantial share in Twitter, several employees <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/some-people-are-dusting-off-their-resumes-elon-musk-is-stirring-fear-among-twitter-employees\">voiced<\/a> fear that Musk would alter Twitter\u2019s \u201ccorporate culture\u201d of \u201cinclusivity.\u201d Musk \u201chas faced widespread criticism for posting memes that mocked transgender people and efforts to stem the spread of COVID-19,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/elon-musks-arrival-stirs-fears-among-some-twitter-employees-2022-04-07\/?utm_medium=Social&#038;utm_source=twitter\">according<\/a> to Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>When asked on Thursday if he is committed to a diverse workplace at Twitter, Musk replied that he wants \u201cat least a billion people on Twitter,\u201d according to The New York Times, which is the \u201cmost explicit definition of inclusiveness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Musk noted that he is \u201cextremely literal with what he says,\u201d meaning that Twitter staff should merely take him at his word.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, Musk made headlines for announcing that he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/elon-musk-tips-hat-toward-ron-desantis-to-be-next-president-of-the-united-states\">voted<\/a> for Mayra Flores \u2014 a Mexican-American Republican congressional candidate who won a historically Democratic district in southern Texas.
