Human Rights Council.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7451020\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7451020\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Facebook\/Image<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span><strong>Verdict: False<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>There is no evidence to suggest such a marriage took place. The photo included in the post shows an Islamic religious leader, not a Saudi prince.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Facebook image shows a picture of a bearded man and another of a young girl in a white dress. \u201cSaudi Prince Abou Lbarae Kahtani, 51 years old, and his new bride Hind Nawaf, 6 years old, exchanged vows in Saudi Arabia last week,\u201d reads text included in the image. \u201cReports say it was a beautiful ceremony.\u201d The post goes on to claim that the marriage occurred a few months after Saudi Arabia was \u201celected the Chair of the United Nations Human Rights Council.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The post\u2019s claims are inaccurate. There are no credible <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=Saudi+prince+marries+six-year-old&#038;ei=X02pYqOPJ9Sk5NoP6_-C0Ao&#038;ved=0ahUKEwjjuoLHva74AhVUElkFHeu_AKoQ4dUDCA4&#038;uact=5&#038;oq=Saudi+prince+marries+six-year-old&#038;gs_lcp=Cgdnd3Mtd2l6EAM6BwgAEEcQsAM6BQghEKsCOgQIIRAKSgQIQRgASgQIRhgAUJACWOsTYLojaAFwAXgAgAFtiAHnApIBAzQuMZgBAKABAcgBCMABAQ&#038;sclient=gws-wiz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">news reports<\/a> of a recent marriage between a Saudi prince and a six-year-old girl. No mention of a prince by the name of \u201cAbou Lbarae Kahtani\u201d could be found on the House of Saud\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/houseofsaud.com\/saudi-royal-family-profiles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a> or on the Saudi royal family\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/houseofsaud.com\/saudi-royal-family-tree\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">family tree<\/a>. Saudi Arabia banned marriage between adults and those under 18 years old in December 2019, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/saudigazette.com.sa\/article\/585608\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Saudi Gazette<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A reverse image search reveals the photo of the alleged prince featured in the post was shared in a 2015 article from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emirates247.com\/news\/region\/scholar-condoled-17-years-after-mom-s-death-2015-07-09-1.596329\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Emirates 24\/7<\/a>, which identified the man as Sheikh Adel Al Kalbani, a \u201cwell-known Saudi Moslem scholar.\u201d In 2009, he became the first black man to\u00a0lead prayers in Mecca, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/04\/11\/world\/middleeast\/11saudi.html?pagewanted=all&#038;_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Saudi Arabia last served on the U.N. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/en\/hr-bodies\/hrc\/past-members\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Human Rights Council<\/a> in 2019, according to the organization\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/en\/hr-bodies\/hrc\/year2019\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a>. The current president of the council is Argentina\u2019s Ambassador to the U.N. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/en\/hr-bodies\/hrc\/presidency#:~:text=Ambassador%20Federico%20Villegas%20has%20been,Upon%20his%20election%2C%20Mr.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Federico Villegas<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/02\/29\/fact-check-donald-trump-tower-air-soldiers-desert-storm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did Trump Fly US Soldiers Back From Operation Desert Storm On His Airline?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time misinformation has spread online about Saudi Arabia.
