The practice offered by the tool is being coined \u201csource auditing.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>The creator of the tool, Chalkbeat, is an NYC-based nonprofit organization dedicated to \u201cessential education reporting.\u201d Their source auditing tool aims to give journalists the ability to add more \u201cdiversity\u201d to their reporting by cherry-picking sources based on their ethnicity, race, gender identity, and age. The only professional qualifier <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chalkbeat.org\/2021\/6\/21\/22543675\/source-diversity-auditing-tracking-chalkbeat-rji-equity-work\">optioned<\/a> by the tool is \u201csource title,\u201d which is a nominal experience qualifier at best. <\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\"><\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chalkbeat.org\/2022\/6\/14\/23167914\/free-tool-journalism-track-source-diversity-source-auditing-newsrooms\">announcement<\/a> of the new diversity tool also encourages leaders in the newsroom to implement the tool with \u201cbroader diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<figure class=\"kg-card kg-embed-card\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Chalkbeat launching a tool to &#8220;track what color the journalist is&#8221; is yet another reason <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChalkBoardRev?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@ChalkBoardRev<\/a> is better than <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Chalkbeat?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Chalkbeat<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At Chalkboard Review, we could care less what skin color you have.
