That sharp increase in apprehensions puts the U.S. on track to see more than 2 million arrests at the Southwest border by the end of the fiscal year in September.<\/p>\n<p>One glance at the CBP\u2019s \u201cSouthwest Land Border Encounters By Month\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/newsroom\/stats\/southwest-land-border-encounters?language_content_entity=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">chart<\/a>, which was lengthened to accommodate the unparalleled influx of illegal migration over the last year and a half, clearly shows that the current surge started as soon as President Joe Biden took office in January of 2021 and hasn\u2019t subsided since. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"727\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Screen-Shot-2022-06-16-at-8.31.39-AM-1024x727-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-274158\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Screen-Shot-2022-06-16-at-8.31.39-AM-1024x727-1.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Screen-Shot-2022-06-16-at-8.31.39-AM-300x213-1.png 300w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Screen-Shot-2022-06-16-at-8.31.39-AM-768x545-1.png 768w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Screen-Shot-2022-06-16-at-8.31.39-AM.png 1144w\"><\/figure>\n<p>Even before Biden entered the White House, he promised to repeal a number of Trump-era border policies. The removal of protections such as the Migrant Protection Protocols (also known as the Remain in Mexico program) and his<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/14\/if-biden-cared-about-border-security-ice-would-arrest-more-border-criminals-instead-of-release-them\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00a0explicit scaling back<\/a> of\u00a0ICE arrests and deportations paired with the administration\u2019s open-border rhetoric has encouraged an exponential rise in illegal immigration. <\/p>\n<p>Instead of addressing this increase in illegal border crossings, Biden has repeatedly tried to scale back even more border protections, most notably\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/04\/08\/no-matter-if-title-42-stays-or-goes-a-massive-migrant-influx-is-coming\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Title 42<\/a>,\u00a0a public health order designed to expedite the expulsion of illegal border crossers during the Covid-19 pandemic. <\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s plans to nuke Title 42 at the end of May were put on hold after a federal judge stepped in but thousands upon thousands of illegal immigrants still made the trek to the U.S. southern border with hopes of filing asylum claims and getting released into the United States.<\/p>\n<p>A Fox News poll conducted last week found that <a href=\"https:\/\/static.foxnews.com\/foxnews.com\/content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Fox_June-10-13-2022_National_Topline_June-15-Release.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">58 percent<\/a> of Americans disapprove of Biden\u2019s handling of the border. <\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Jordan Boyd is a staff writer at The Federalist and co-producer of The Federalist Radio Hour.
