Sean Casten (D-IL) issued a statement Wednesday on the tragic death of his 17-year-old daughter, Gwen, who reportedly died in her sleep Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The cause of death has yet to be uncovered, though the congressman said Gwen\u2019s death was peaceful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are grateful to all who have reached out with thoughts, condolences and help,\u201d Casten posted to his Twitter account, captioning a photo of his daughter. \u201cTo all asking what they can do, we ask only that you live your lives as Gwen lived hers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn Sunday night, we had dinner as a family and then she went out with some friends for a few hours,\u201d a statement from the representative detailed. \u201cWhen she got home, she said goodnight to Kara (Casten\u2019s wife) and I, texted a friend to make sure she got home OK, and didn\u2019t wake up on Monday morning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only thing we know about her death is that it was peaceful,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd the only lesson we can take from that is to savor the moments you have with your loved ones. We want purpose. We want to believe in a brighter tomorrow. But the only thing we can control is our present.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We are grateful to all who have reached out with thoughts, condolences and help.
