There were no civilians harmed during the operation nor any damage to Coalition aircraft or assets,\u201d CJTF-OIR said.<\/p>\n<p>The ISIS leader\u2019s capture is yet another successful U.S. mission targeting leaders in the terrorist group. In February, the White House <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/white-house-says-top-isis-leader-killed-in-u-s-raid-in-syria\">announced<\/a> that another top ISIS leader had been killed in Syria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast night at my direction, U.S. military forces in the northwest Syria successfully undertook a counterterrorism operation to protect the American people and our Allies, and make the world a safer place,\u201d President Joe Biden said in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2022\/02\/03\/statement-by-president-joe-biden-3\/\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks to the skill and bravery of our Armed Forces, we have taken off the battlefield Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi\u2014the leader of ISIS. All Americans have returned safely from the operation. I will deliver remarks to the American people later this morning. May God protect our troops,\u201d Biden added.<\/p>\n<p>The February <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/more-details-emerge-on-isis-chief-killed-in-u-s-raid-on-syria-compound\">raid<\/a> took place at 1 a.m. when U.S. commandos landed out of a helicopter and surrounded a residential building in Atmeh. \u201cAt the beginning of the operation the terrorist target exploded a bomb that killed him and members of his own family, including women and children. While we are still assessing the results of this operation, this appears to be the same cowardly terrorist tactic we saw in the 2019 operation that eliminated [Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi,\u201d a U.S. official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/u-s-special-forces-raid-syrian-site-in-search-of-terrorist-leader-11643869402?mod=hp_lead_pos1&#038;mod=hp_lead_pos1\">told<\/a> The Wall Street Journal.<\/p>\n<p>In October 2019 under the Trump administration, Baghdadi killed himself during an elite Delta Force raid.
