A viral post shared on Facebook claims that there are no school shootings in Israel because students are allowed to carry firearms. The image shows four women with rifles slung across their backs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo school shootings in Israel,\u201d the post claims. \u201cMust be great gun control? What, they carry guns to class \u2013 oh no, not that!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The claim is incorrect. Though school shootings are uncommon in Israel, students cannot carry guns with them to class. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/06\/10\/fact-check-chicago-guns-illegal-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Are Guns Illegal In Chicago?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe claim is false,\u201d said a spokesperson at the Embassy of Israel to the U.S. in an emailed statement to Check Your Fact. \u201cThose are not students with guns, as guns are not allowed in classes in Israel, either in schools or colleges.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nearly every school in Israel is protected by an armed guard, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/uvalde-shooting-israel-school-security-methods-model-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fox News<\/a>. A report written for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cga.ct.gov\/2013\/rpt\/2013-R-0119.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Connecticut General Assembly<\/a> in 2013 states that only the guards, the police, the army and authorized educational personnel can carry firearms at schools in Israel.<\/p>\n<p>The Firearm Licensing Department of Israel states on its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.il\/en\/Departments\/General\/firearm-licensing-information\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a> that \u201cThe law does not recognize a right to bear arms and anyone who wishes to carry a gun must meet a number of requirements and demonstrate a need to carry one.\u201d These requirements include that an applicant must demonstrate a need for owning a weapon, be over 18 years of age, have a basic understanding of Hebrew and have a health declaration signed by a medical doctor.
