Gov. John Fetterman held a huge lead over Republican Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania\u2019s Senate race in a USA Today Network\/Suffolk University poll released Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goerie.com\/story\/news\/politics\/state\/2022\/06\/15\/suffolk-university-usa-today-poll-pennsylvania-senate-governor-oz-fetterman\/65360594007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">poll<\/a> showed Fetterman led his political rival by 9 points despite the Democrat <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/15\/pennsylvania-senate-primary-john-fetterman-stroke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">suffering a stroke<\/a> in May that hospitalized him just days before the state\u2019s primary. He has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/politics\/election\/fetterman-return-campaign-senate-stroke-democrat-midtems-pennsylvania-20220607.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">yet to return<\/a> to the campaign trail and has <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/03\/john-fetterman-almost-died-stroke-doctors-note\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">acknowledged<\/a> that he \u201calmost died.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fetterman had an overall favorability rating of 45% compared to 28% for <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/18\/pennsylvania-gop-senate-mehmet-oz-david-mccormick-recount\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oz<\/a>, according to the poll. Half of the respondents viewed Oz unfavorably, while only 27% were unfavorable towards Fetterman.<\/p>\n<p>The lieutenant governor secured the lead despite the overwhelmingly negative polling toward Democratic President Joe Biden, who currently holds an average 53.9% disapproval rating, <a href=\"https:\/\/projects.fivethirtyeight.com\/biden-approval-rating\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to FiveThirtyEight.<\/p>\n<p>Over 44% of respondents in the Suffolk University poll said economic conditions in Pennsylvania are poor, with 36% saying fair and 16% saying good.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7451328\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7451328\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mehmet Oz greets supporters after the primary race resulted in an automatic re-count due to close results on May 17, 2022 in Newtown, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Stephanie Keith\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cI use the words \u2018thread the needle\u2019 because I always think of campaigns as patchwork, as a political fabrics,\u201d Suffolk University Political Research Center Director David Paleologos told The Erie-Times News. \u201cIt\u2019s really a fine line given Biden\u2019s disapproval rate and the dire state of the economy.<\/p>\n<p>Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro, the Democratic gubernatorial candidate, also beat Republican candidate Doug Mastriano in the poll. Shapiro led Mastriano by 4 points and had a favorability rating of 45%.<\/p>\n<p>Paleologos noted the political environment could change drastically between now and the November general election. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/28\/ron-desantis-brian-kemp-donald-trump-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: What Does Brian Kemp\u2019s Victory Mean For Ron DeSantis?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThings could get really bad. We could go to a recession or a deep recession, or from a recession to, God forbid, a depression,\u201d he told The Erie-Times News.<\/p>\n<p>The Suffolk University poll surveyed 500 Pennsylvania residents who were extremely or very likely to vote.
