The claim has been circulating since 2020.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Rwanda has strengthened relations with China in the past few years and Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the country in 2018, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chinadaily.com.cn\/a\/202111\/25\/WS619ee235a310cdd39bc7768d.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">China Daily<\/a>, a Chinese state-owned news outlet.<\/p>\n<p>The Instagram image claims Kagame recently ordered the deportation of 18 Chinese nationals for mistreating Rwandan workers. Kagame allegedly said, \u201cRwanda is for Africans and those who mean well for us. I am directing the 18 Chinese investors to leave Rwanda immediately and must never return back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There is no evidence any of this occurred. Check Your Fact found no <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=paul+kagame+deported+18+nationals&#038;source=lnms&#038;tbm=nws&#038;sa=X&#038;ved=2ahUKEwiMu8eZxK34AhUCmmoFHWK1AawQ_AUoAXoECAEQAw&#038;biw=1440&#038;bih=821&#038;dpr=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">credible news reports<\/a> about such a development. A search of the Rwandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.minaffet.gov.rw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a> also did not yield any results about the deportation of Chinese nationals.<\/p>\n<p>Yolanda Makolo, a spokesperson for the Rwandan government, stated on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/yolandemakolo\/status\/1536733951338872832?s=21&#038;t=vbbd7sfwZZEQzkXcx4aR0w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter<\/a> that Kagame did not deport 18 Chinese nationals. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/04\/30\/fact-check-photo-coronavirus-relief-packages-rwanda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does This Photo Show Covid-19 Relief Packages In Rwanda?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Hello <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Sophie_Mokoena?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Sophie_Mokoena<\/a>. Didn\u2019t happen,\u201d she said in response to a tweet asking if the claim was true.<\/p>\n<p>The Rwandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rwandamfa\/status\/1267777013575815169?s=21&#038;t=hPQpgY7Z25-tYj6a4OzGfg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">dismissed<\/a> the same claim in a 2020 tweet.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The Ministry of Foreign Affairs &#038; International Cooperation would like to inform the public that there has been fake news circulating on various social media platforms stating that 18 Chinese citizens were expelled from Rwanda; no such thing happened.
