John Hickenlooper\u2019s late asset trades valued up to $1.3 million that it says are a \u201cclear violation\u201d of ethics rules and federal law. The complaint comes on the heels of a\u00a0Daily Caller News Foundation story on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Hickenlooper disclosed three trades that were 185, 257, and 370 days after the filing deadline, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/01\/john-hickenlooper-disclosures-watchdog-corruption\/\">TheDCNF<\/a> previously reported, and two trades that were both 427 days late. The senator\u2019s late transactions reporting is \u201can egregious case because of the extreme delay,\u201d The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT), a nonpartisan group probing ethics in the government, wrote in a complaint to the committee Wednesday obtained by TheDCNF.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSen. Hickenlooper\u2019s failure to file timely reports of stock trades is inexcusable,\u201d Kendra Arnold, executive director of FACT, told TheDCNF. \u201cSenators are fully aware of the reporting requirements which are necessary for transparency and accountability. Late disclosures erode public trust and create a sense that Senators do not have to abide by federal law and ethics rules.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The STOCK Act, which passed in 2012, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/112\/plaws\/publ105\/PLAW-112publ105.htm\">requires<\/a> members of Congress to disclose any transactions worth more than $1,000 within 30 days of receiving notice or within 45 days of when the transaction occurred. (Photo by Sean Rayford\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>While Hickenlooper disclosed buying up to $50,000 of non-public stock in a Denver bar and music lounge, the other transactions involved his wife, Robin. She sold as much as $750,000 in combined shares of Liberty Media, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nga.org\/governor-spouse\/robin-pringle-hickenlooper\/\">where<\/a> she is employed, and also sold as much as $500,000 in combined Liberty Broadband shares, TheDCNF reported.<\/p>\n<p>FACT\u2019s letter is addressed to the committee\u2019s chairman, Democratic Delaware Sen. Chris Coons, and Republican Oklahoma Sen. James Lankford, its vice chairman. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/01\/john-hickenlooper-disclosures-watchdog-corruption\/\"><strong>(RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: Dem Senator\u2019s Alleged Violation Of Stock Disclosure Rules Has Watchdogs Worried)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe laws must be strictly followed in order to reveal whether a Senator has used non-public information for profit or whether his official actions were altered in order to benefit his personal investments,\u201d FACT writes in its complaint.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen disclosures are this late it becomes difficult, if not impossible, to determine whether a Senator had a conflict of interest and the law becomes ineffective,\u201d the group also writes.\u00a0\u201cSenators are well aware of their duty to comply with the law and have an affirmative duty to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Senate Ethics Committee did not respond to a request for comment, nor did Hickenlooper.
