Version: 4.0.47--><p>A U.S. federal agency announced on Monday that it would require <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-spacex\">SpaceX<\/a> to take over 75 environmental actions before permitting its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-starship\">Starship<\/a>-Super Heavy program to launch.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Transportation\u2019s Federal Aviation Administration (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-faa\">FAA<\/a>) will require SpaceX to take actions like monitoring plants and wildlife for launch impacts, removing launch debris from\u00a0sensitive habitats in the\u00a0surrounding Texas State Parks and Lower Rio Grande National Wildlife Refuge, and managing light and noise pollution from the launch site before the company can launch Starship, the most powerful rocket ever built, according to an FAA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/newsroom\/faa-requires-spacex-take-over-75-actions-mitigate-environmental-impact-planned\">press release<\/a> published on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The FAA also demanded \u201cmore advanced notice of launches\u201d to \u201creduce how long State Highway 4 is closed during launch operations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClosures will not be allowed on 18 identified holidays, and weekend restrictions are limited to no more than five weekends per year, ensuring robust access to the refuge and park throughout the calendar year,\u201d the FAA said.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the space company must meet \u201cFAA safety, risk, and financial responsibility requirements before a license is issued for any launch activities,\u201d the agency said on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The requirements are part of the agency\u2019s environmental review process in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act.<\/p>\n<p>The FAA was planning to release the decision months ago, but experienced delays due to SpaceX\u2019s \u201cmultiple changes\u201d to its launch application, Bloomberg <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-06-13\/spacex-clears-faa-hurdle-for-expanded-launches-at-texas-facility?utm_source=google&#038;utm_medium=bd&#038;cmpId=google\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Starship system is SpaceX\u2019s newest system in its mission to carry humans to Mars and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpaceX\u2019s Starship spacecraft and Super Heavy rocket (collectively referred to as Starship) represent a fully reusable transportation system designed to carry both crew and cargo to Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars and beyond,\u201d SpaceX\u2019s website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spacex.com\/vehicles\/starship\/\">reads<\/a>. \u201cStarship will be the world\u2019s most powerful launch vehicle ever developed, with the ability to carry in excess of 100 metric tonnes to Earth orbit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In February, Musk <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1489357796499984389\">said<\/a>\u00a0that Starship was \u201cin a different league\u201d compared to its Falcon 9 rocket and \u201cnecessary for creating a self-sustaining city on Mars.\u201d He added that Starship is the \u201choly grail of rocketry.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Starship aspires to be the first fully reusable orbital launch vehicle, the holy grail of rocketry.<\/p>\n<p>This is the critical breakthrough needed to make life multiplanetary.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-elon-musk\">Elon Musk<\/a> (@elonmusk) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1489357796499984389?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 3, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>\u2018Space Race of Our Lives\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>In a June 13 statement provided to The Epoch Times, space expert Brandon Weichert, who authors \u201cWinning Space: How America Remains a Superpower,\u201d warned that the Biden administration should \u201cmove immediately to streamline these launches and reduce whatever red tape exists with due haste.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe FAA decision is a step in the right direction,\u201d Weichert said, \u201cBut there are still major bureaucratic hurdles that the federal government is going to force SpaceX to overcome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNeedless to say, the amount of delays that the federal government has subjected SpaceX to, ostensibly out of concern for public safety, have been onerous. Every delay, each unnecessary bureaucratic complication, could potentially have severe knock-on impacts on America\u2019s overall competitive capabilities against China.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe future of our country\u2019s place as the dominant power on Earth is at stake. Whoever controls the strategic high ground of space dominates the Earthly terrestrial domains.
