She then blamed soaring gas prices on oil companies price-gouging and attacked Republicans for not standing with Democrats in their push to combat it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust to respond to one of our oil and gas-enthusiastic Republican senators who just said something about my buying an electric vehicle. I\u2019ve got to tell you, we have great new Michigan electric vehicles, and my [Chevrolet] Bolt is terrific\u2026 affordable, union labor, and I\u2019m so proud to have an opportunity to be able to support Michigan workers,\u201d Stabenow said. \u201cWhat he was doing and what others are doing is trying to divert us from the fact that we have gas gouging at the pump, and have had it for some time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stabenow pointed to a report by the Senate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.democrats.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/DPCC%20Inflation%20Report%20-%20Lowering%20Costs%20for%20Families%5b4%5d%5b1%5d.pdf\">Democratic Policy and Communication Committee<\/a>, which claimed that oil companies made $237 billion in profits in 2021. \u201cAnd yet they continue to gouge us at the pump. So we would love to have Republican colleagues working with us on that, rather than accepting oil and gas money to fund their campaigns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/BREAKING?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#BREAKING<\/a>: Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) responds to GOP criticism of her comments about driving an electric vehicle: \u201cWhat he was doing and others are doing is trying to divert us from the fact that we have gas-gouging at the pump.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/y72bMklvxA\">pic.twitter.com\/y72bMklvxA<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Forbes (@Forbes) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Forbes\/status\/1536799352890568707?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 14, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Stabenow\u2019s comments came in response to Wyoming Republican Senator John Barrasso, who blasted Stabenow\u2019s original remarks, which she made at a hearing of the Senate Finance Committee, and said that her remarks reflect the sentiment of the party as a whole.\u00a0\u201cSo what does the Senator from the Democrat Party, who is the chair of the Democrats\u2019 Policy and Communication Committee have to say, which, to me, makes them the spokesmen for the Party?\u201d Barrasso said during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=q1_ROzxcLos\">Republicans\u2019 weekly briefing<\/a> earlier in the day. \u201cLast week in the Finance Committee, she said it didn\u2019t matter to her how high gas prices went, because she had an electric car. So that is the spokesmen for the Democrats, the chair of the Policy Committee, saying, \u2018you don\u2019t like the high cost? Tough. Buy yourself an electric car.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During a hearing of the Senate Finance Committee with Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, Stabenow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/tone-deaf-while-americans-suffer-inflation-dem-senator-brags-about-avoiding-gas-prices-with-her-ev\">boasted<\/a> about the fact that she had just purchased an electric car. \u201cI do have to say, on the issue of gas prices, after waiting for a long time to have enough chips in this country to finally get my electric vehicle, I got it and drove it from Michigan to here this last weekend, and went by every single gas station,\u201d Stabenow bragged. \u201cIt didn\u2019t matter how high it [gas price] was. And so I\u2019m looking forward to the opportunity for us to move to vehicles that aren\u2019t going to be dependent on the whims of the oil companies and the international markets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stabenow\u2019s comments are just the latest example of prominent Democrats bragging about how electric cars make it so that they no longer have to worry about the price of gasoline.<\/p>\n<p>In a November interview with MSNBC, Transportation Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/buttigieg-electric-cars-will-make-it-so-americans-never-have-to-worry-about-gas-prices-again\">Pete Buttigieg<\/a> said that tax credits for electric vehicles would make it easier for families to afford one, and \u201conce they own that vehicle, [they] will never have to worry about gas prices again.\u201d Then in May, Energy Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/perhaps-the-department-should-not-exist-senate-republicans-trade-barbs-with-energy-sec-granholm\">Jennifer Granholm<\/a> said during a hearing of the Senate Energy Committee that she did not remember the price of gasoline because she drove an electric car.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democratic Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow doubled down on remarks she made last week boasting about the fact that she drives an electric car.
