Wade<\/em>, the United States House of Representatives has finally passed a bill to provide security for the families of the Supreme Court justices.<\/p>\n<p>News that the bill passed the House also comes over a month after the legislation passed the Senate and about a week after authorities arrested a man near the home of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. That man claimed that he intended to murder the justice, authorities said.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities arrested Nicholas John Roske, 26, of Simi Valley, California, in the Washington suburb of Chevy Chase, Maryland, early in the morning on June 8. A Department of Justice affidavit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/s3.documentcloud.org\/documents\/22056069\/roskenicholas.pdf\">details<\/a>\u00a0how Roske allegedly traveled to Kavanaugh\u2019s home armed with weapons and burglary tools with the intent to kill the justice and prevent him from ruling on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/second-amendment\">Second Amendment<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/abortion\">abortion<\/a>\u00a0cases.<\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Court safety legislation, which passed the House in a 396 to 27 vote,\u00a0according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/06\/14\/congress-supreme-court-security\/\">The Washington Post<\/a>, now heads to the desk of President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>All 27 votes against the bill were from Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Republicans had threatened Monday evening that they would block a different House bill that sought to protect the families of Supreme Court staffers rather than just the families of the Supreme Court justices.<\/p>\n<div data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\" data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\">\u201cThe security issue is related to the Supreme Court justices, not to nameless staff that no one knows,\u201d Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, told reporters Monday evening.<\/p>\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\">Hours after this, The Washington Post reported, Democrats changed their course, with House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) saying the Senate\u2019s bill is \u201cthe only thing that can pass, frankly, and we want to get it done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, for the third time, GOP House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/mccarthy-accuses-dems-stalling-security-bill-of-jeopardizing-the-safety-of-the-supreme-court\">requested<\/a> unanimous consent to expedite the passage of a security bill to protect the Supreme Court justices.<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy emphasized that \u201cthere is no reason\u201d to delay the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/senate-bill\/4160\">proposal<\/a>, asking for immediate consideration in the House.<\/p>\n<p>His request was declined.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do not understand why we would risk that,\u201d McCarthy said in remarks Monday afternoon, pointing out that the bill was introduced more than a month ago. \u201cI do not understand why you\u2019ll make sure that the Capitol is protected right now knowing that something could happen \u2026 or something could happen at the Supreme Court this week, but you won\u2019t protect those justices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy also drew on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi\u2019s (D-CA) Thursday\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/pelosi-denies-request-to-immediately-pass-scotus-security-bill-house-will-vote-next-week\">claim<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0\u201cthe justices are protected,\u201d a remark that came only a few days after Roske\u2019s arrest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis issue is not about the justices, it\u2019s about staff and the rest,\u201d Pelosi said, explaining why the House would be voting on the Supreme Court security bill the following week. \u201cThe justices are protected; you saw the attorney general even double down on that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow can you make that statement the same week?\u201d demanded McCarthy, adding that Pelosi\u2019s statement \u201cmakes no sense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The GOP leader warned Democrats that if they change the Supreme Court security bill, sending it back to the Senate instead of passing it, \u201cthe country will know why.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCause if you change the bill and move it back to the Senate, you\u2019re trying to kill it,\u201d he said, emphasizing that every senator had voted for the security bill. \u201cYou\u2019re trying to delay it. That\u2019s exactly what you\u2019re doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you think something else needs to be added, run it by itself,\u201d he added. \u201cI think you\u2019re jeopardizing people\u2019s lives. I think you\u2019re jeopardizing the safety of the Supreme Court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Senate\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/senate-unanimously-passes-bill-to-protect-supreme-court-justices-families-amid-leftist-protests\">passed the legislation unanimously<\/a>\u00a0in May, but it had been stalled in the House of Representatives, prompting sharp criticism from Republicans who said that the bill should be passed immediately to protect the justices.<\/p>\n<p>The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Daily Wire.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over a month after the leak of a Supreme Court draft opinion suggesting that the court plans to overturn Roe v.
