Kennedy on his birthday in 1962. It has since been preserved until the \u201cKeeping Up with the Kardashians\u201d star <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/kim-kardashian-hits-met-gala-in-dress-worn-by-marilyn-monroe-when-she-sang-happy-birthday-mr-president-to-jfk\">wore<\/a> it in May to the annual gala. Collector Scott Fortner has called the decision by Ripley\u2019s Believe It or Not! to allow the reality star to wear it \u201cirresponsible\u201d and more, Yahoo News <a href=\"https:\/\/nz.news.yahoo.com\/kim-kardashian-significantly-damaged-marilyn-150346269.html\">reported<\/a> in a piece published Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do feel that it [was] irresponsible, this is not just a dress,\u201d Fortner explained. \u201cThis is a cultural icon. It\u2019s a political icon. It\u2019s a Hollywood icon. It\u2019s part of American history from an event that happened 60 years ago and \u2026 it should have been archived and preserved and taken care of.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the disappointment that I\u2019m experiencing is Ripley has made multiple statements that they were doing everything that they could to protect and preserve the gown,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Fortner, who is the curator of the world\u2019s largest private collection of Monroe\u2019s personal property and archives, shared several before and after photos on his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/Cev-Ur4Lfas\/?hl=en\">Instagram<\/a> of the sparkling, sleeveless form-fitted gown embellished with thousands of crystals, noting how after the reality star wore the dress it was now \u201cmissing crystals\u201d with some \u201cleft hanging by a thread.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also shared that the damage is \u201cirreparable\u201d because the fabric no longer exists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo much for keeping \u2018the integrity of the dress and the preservation\u2019,\u201d the collector shared in his post. \u201cWas it worth it? Without question, the damage is significant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fortner made it clear that he wasn\u2019t upset with \u201cThe Kardashians\u201d star for wearing it, but with Ripley\u2019s for loaning out a piece of Hollywood history.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think a lot of people are really kind of coming down really hard on Kim Kardashian and that\u2019s not my attempt here. It\u2019s the most famous dress in the world,\u201d the collector told Yahoo News.<\/p>\n<p>According to Yahoo News, after the gala, Ripley\u2019s Believe It or Not! responded to the initial backlash about allowing the dress to be worn and said, \u201cGreat care was taken to preserve this piece of pop culture history.
