One reporter asked about\u00a0Biden once bragging about the stock market hitting \u201crecord after record after record on my watch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the gains from President Biden\u2019s time in office have been wiped out,\u201d the reporter noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, as you know, we are watching \u2014 we\u2019re watching closely,\u201d Jean-Pierre said. \u201cWe know families are concerned about inflation and the stock market.\u00a0 That is something that the President is \u2014 is really aware of. And so, look, we face global challenges. We\u2019ve talked about this. This is \u2014 we\u2019re not the only country dealing with what we\u2019re seeing at the moment as it relates to inflation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know, Putin \u2014 Putin\u2019s price hike, inflation, coming \u2014 coming out of a once-in-a-generation global pandemic \u2014 all of those things play a factor.\u00a0\u00a0And, you know \u2014 but the thing \u2014 the way that we see this is that the American people are well positioned to face these challenges because of the economic historic gains that we have made under this President \u2014 under this President in the last 16 months,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Jean-Pierre went on to say the economy is actually doing great.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo we know \u2014 we know that the \u2014 that high prices are having a real effect on people\u2019s lives. We get that. And we are incredibly focused on doing everything that we can to make sure that the economy is working for every \u2014 American people. But we are coming out of the strongest job market in American history, and that matters. And that \u2014 a lot of that is thanks to the American Rescue Plan, which only Democrats voted for that \u2014 Republicans did not \u2014 and it led to this economic boom \u2014 this historic economic boom that we\u2019re seeing with jobs,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The Labor Department on Friday reported that the consumer price index rose 1% in May from the prior month, for an annual rate of 8.6%.
