The media\u2019s treatment of the polarizing films deserves some of the credit.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing to see here. Move along. Except few did as told.<\/p>\n<p>D\u2019Souza\u2019s documentary gives 2020 election skeptics a new way to doubt the results \u2013 geotracking data showing a possible infestation of ballot \u201cmules\u201d who allegedly tipped the scales in President Joe Biden\u2019s favor.<\/p>\n<p>True? False? A well-intentioned misreading of data? A more nefarious one?<\/p>\n<p>One thing is clear. The media didn\u2019t want people to see the film and make up their own minds. Why else would an army of \u201cfact checkers\u201d descend on \u201cMules\u201d while ignoring multitudes of other features with controversial claims like:<\/p>\n<p>It also explains why this critic\u2019s review of the film is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/2000_mules\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">only professional take on \u201c2000 Mules\u201d<\/a> over at Rotten Tomatoes.<\/p>\n<p>At least the media covered D\u2019Souza\u2019s election documentary, albeit in a uniformly negative fashion. The Daily Wire film \u201cWhat Is a Woman?\u201d got a similar cold shoulder at RottenTomatoes.com. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/what_is_a_woman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Only four professional reviews<\/a> can be found at the site despite an audience score of 97 percent \u201cfresh.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No critiques from \u201cVariety,\u201d \u201cThe Hollywood Reporter,\u201d \u201cDeadline\u201d or other august outlets.<\/p>\n<p>That isn\u2019t the only silent war being waged on the film, a withering attack on specific elements of the trans movement. Mainstream media outlets, particularly entertainment sites, have all but ignored the film and its provocative star, Matt Walsh.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s like they don\u2019t want people to know \u201cWoman?\u201d exists.<\/p>\n<p>Rolling Stone clearly doesn\u2019t. The far-Left outlet, which once championed free expression, is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/we-have-the-receipts-rolling-stone-hit-piece-calls-what-is-a-woman-transphobic-but-its-author-watched-0-of-the-movie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pressuring Big Tech platforms to block The Daily Wire<\/a> from promoting \u201cWoman?\u201d on the basis it\u2019s \u201ctransphobic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s more.<\/p>\n<p>Letterboxd, a platform where amateur film critics can share their online reviews, is <a href=\"https:\/\/boundingintocomics.com\/2022\/06\/10\/movie-review-platform-letterboxd-hides-all-reviews-for-matt-walsh-documentary-what-is-a-woman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trying to suppress \u201cWoman?\u201d reviews.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/big-tech-censorship-conservative-comedy\/\"><strong>RELATED: Big Tech Is Crushing Conservative Comedy<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201c2000 Mules\u201d is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/2000-mules-top-grossing-documentary\/\">top-grossing documentary of 2022<\/a>, and that\u2019s without counting the VOD receipts. \u201cWhat Is a Woman?\u201d scored big on the Rotten Tomatoes VOD charts, and The Daily Wire says the film sparked its largest sign-up numbers of any of its feature films to date.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><noscript><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>Both \u201cWoman?\u201d and Walsh routinely trend on social media in recent days thanks to the film and its controversial content.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s hard to view either film as anything but a roaring success. And they can thank the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-18458567\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Streisand Effect<\/a> for making that a reality.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026 an online phenomenon in which an attempt to hide or remove information \u2013 a photo, video, story etc \u2013 results in the greater spread of the information in question.<\/p>\n<p>That \u201cEffect\u201d has everything to do with the modern censorship wave. It\u2019s why figures like Dr. Robert Malone, who famously questioned the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccines, gained far more attention as Big Tech censors erased him and his views.<\/p>\n<p>In the case of \u201cWoman?\u201d the Streisand Effect played perfectly into the film\u2019s key conceit. The titular question seems innocent enough, something even a child could answer without hesitation.<\/p>\n<p>The film proved something different, though, as feminists, scholars and medical professionals proved incapable of giving Walsh the answer he sought.
