Even those on Team Depp from the jump found it hard to square with some of his antics.<\/p>\n<p>And yet cultural observers suggest Depp will emerge with a reborn career following the trial while Heard could struggle to find the same success she had before the legal skirmish. A former Disney executive <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/06\/06\/ex-disney-exec-johnny-depp-can-return-for-next-pirates-movie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">predicts Depp will play the saucy Jack Sparrow<\/a> again in a future \u201cPirates of the Caribbean\u201d sequel, even if Depp himself said he\u2019s<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2022\/film\/news\/johnny-depp-cross-examination-begins-pirates-of-the-carribbean-6-1235237292\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> retired from the gig<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For Heard, indie films may be her best way back into Hollywood\u2019s good graces given she rarely anchored films like Depp did. Or, she might follow the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2022\/jun\/01\/johnny-depp-amber-heard-court-verdict-career-prospects\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">path blazed by fading star Alyssa Milano<\/a> and embrace her inner activist, at least according to The Guardian.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-plain\">\n<p>Heard\u2019s long-running outspoken defence of domestic abuse victims is more likely the key to her future activities: as with, for example, the actor and campaigner Rose McGowan, she now has a considerably higher profile as an activist than an actor and may well wish to concentrate her efforts in that sphere.<\/p>\n<p><cite>The Guardian<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That\u2019s likely not what she wanted following the trial. At 36, Heard is in the prime of her movie career, at least on paper.<\/p>\n<p>Depp isn\u2019t treating his win as if it came with any caveats. He just splurged on an <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/06\/06\/johnny-depp-eats-62000-indian-meal-to-celebrate-trial-win\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Indian feast <\/a>that set her back $62,000. He also joined the popular TikTok platform,<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/movies\/johnny-depp-joins-tiktok-after-amber-heard-trial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> earning nearly 4 million followers<\/a> in a matter of days without a single post.<\/p>\n<p>And if you\u2019re trying to find him, better look on stage at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/tvshowbiz\/article-10893313\/Johnny-Depp-appears-good-spirits-waves-fans-York-ahead-performance-Jeff-Beck.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">next Jeff Beck concert.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Think pieces debating the Depp\/Heard trial flooded the web and will likely continue. It\u2019s hard to deny the sense that Depp emerged victorious in the court of public opinion despite the sordid details of his personal life.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption><em>Johnny Depp celebrated the win over Amber Heard with $62k meal with friends. We\u2019ll never know the full truth behind their doomed marriage, but it\u2019s clear Heard physically attacked Depp and was less than truthful on other, critical matters.<\/p>\n<p>In short, this wasn\u2019t a clear-cut case of a man abusing his spouse, full stop. The MeToo wave, while important in shedding a brighter light on abusers and giving victims a worthy boost, also went too far in the public arena.<\/p>\n<p>Think<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2018\/01\/16\/matt-damon-i-should-close-my-mouth-for-a-while\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> Matt Damon getting silenced <\/a>for sharing a rationale take on the shades of abuse. Or, recall how a bad date <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/pop-culture\/tv\/aziz-ansari-addresses-sexual-misconduct-allegation-netflix-special-i-just-n1027766\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">nearly capsized Aziz Ansari\u2019s comedy career<\/a>. Anyone sharing a dissenting view, or a call for clarity and evidence in abuse allegations, got pummeled in the cultural conversation.<\/p>\n<p>Many understood that was the wrong way to stop these predators but were powerless to say so. They also saw a veteran star\u2019s career crumble before their eyes, losing two major movie franchises in the process \u2013 the \u201cFantastic Beasts\u201d and \u201cPirates\u201d series. The justification for that collapse didn\u2019t fit the reality they binge-watched during the trial.<\/p>\n<p>For them, the Depp trial spoke for them. Giving voice to the voiceless can be powerful, and the trial is proving it anew.<\/p>\n<p>Turns out the public will embrace Depp\u2019s win, many warts and all.<\/p>\n<p>Funny man Chris Rock may have summed up both the trial\u2019s verdict and our current MeToo assessment with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/2022\/05\/johnny-depp-trial-chris-rock-slams-amber-heard-1234725018\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">one pithy line<\/a>: \u201cBelieve All Women \u2026 except Amber Heard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Right or wrong, that message resonated the loudest with John Q.
