Tom Rice was in greater danger of losing his seat than Republican Rep. Nancy Mace, due to the former\u2019s vote to impeach Trump.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>\u201cI think probably Trump, more than anything else, wants to settle a score with those 10 Republicans who voted for his impeachment,\u201d J. Miles Coleman, associate editor of Sabato\u2019s Crystal Ball, told TheDCNF.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Former President Donald Trump is hoping to oust two South Carolina Republicans from the House on Tuesday, but experts told The Daily Caller News Foundation that only one is likely to get the boot.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Reps. Tom Rice and Nancy Mace are both facing primary opponents endorsed by <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/22\/nancy-mace-mo-brooks-nikki-haley-richard-shelby-donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trump<\/a> after both were critical of the former president after the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol. Trump, who turns 76 Tuesday, asked voters in June to give him \u201ca beautiful, beautiful birthday present\u201d by getting rid of both conservatives, NBC News reported.<\/p>\n<p>Rice, who Trump has called a \u201cbackstabbing RINO,\u201d voted to impeach Trump in the House, which is part of why he\u2019s more likely to lose his race than Mace, experts told TheDCNF.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRice voted for impeachment, and that\u2019s a much more easily identifiable thing of \u2018get this guy out,\u2019 than with Mace,\u201d Lakshya Jain, an election analyst who writes for Split Ticket, told TheDCNF. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/28\/ron-desantis-brian-kemp-donald-trump-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: What Does Brian Kemp\u2019s Victory Mean For Ron DeSantis?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mace, who <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/11\/09\/first-house-representatives-republican-woman-south-carolina-nancy-mace-video-interview-joe-cunningham\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">won her seat<\/a> in 2020 from Democratic Rep. Joe Cunningham, condemned Trump after the Capitol riot, though she did not vote to impeach. Her criticism of Trump has waned since then, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/02\/10\/spurned-by-trump-gop-rep-mace-stands-outside-trump-tower-nyc-pledge-fidelity-former-president\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">calling herself<\/a> one of the former president\u2019s \u201cearliest supporters\u201d in February.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7449804\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7449804\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rep. (Photo by Kevin Dietsch\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/02\/21\/nancy-mace-katie-arrington-donald-trump-south-carolina\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">endorsed<\/a> Mace\u2019s opponent Katie Arrington, who lost to Cunningham in 2018 while campaigning for the House.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s almost weird that Trump would back Arrington because he generally doesn\u2019t like backing losers,\u201d J. Miles Coleman, associate editor of Sabato\u2019s Crystal Ball, told TheDCNF.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrafalgargroup.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/SC01-GOP-Primary-Poll-Report-0601.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">poll<\/a> conducted between May 26-29 from Trafalgar Group gave Mace a 5-point lead among likely GOP primary voters with about 46% of the vote. It surveyed 556 respondents and had a margin of error of 4.1%.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArrington lost her last election to Cunningham \u2026 she\u2019s been kind of out of politics since,\u201d Jain said. \u201cAs a previous loser already, there\u2019s \u2026 that pedigree that she\u2019s already lost an election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite Nancy\u2019s sewer rat friends spending $2 million dollars of DC Dark money, they can\u2019t hide that she has voted with AOC nearly 50% of the time,\u201d Chris D\u2019Anna, a spokesperson for Arrington, told TheDCNF in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Mace has voted with Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York about 46% of the time since Jan. 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/projects.propublica.org\/represent\/members\/M000194-nancy-mace\/compare-votes\/O000172-alexandria-ocasio-cortez\/117\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to ProPublica. The aggregator includes votes on <a href=\"https:\/\/archives-democrats-rules.house.gov\/archives\/suspend_rules.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">motions to suspend the rules<\/a>, which allows bills to pass only if two-thirds or greater of members agree.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVoters of this district want Trump Endorsed America First Candidates like Katie Arrington, not swamp sellouts like Nancy Mace,\u201d D\u2019Anna said.<\/p>\n<p>Mace was able to secure the backing of former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and former White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, both of whom served in the Trump administration.\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/29\/pivotal-primary-races-2022-midterms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Here Are The 12 Pivotal Primary Races Of 2022)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By the end of May, Mace had taken in more than $4.1 million in contributions, The Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/2022-midterm-elections-congress-south-carolina-government-and-politics-8ca9ac4464aa3da87790334809756503\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>. Arrington trailed with approximately $909,000.<\/p>\n<p>Another Tragalgar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrafalgargroup.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/SC07-GOP-Primary-Poll-Report-0601.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">poll<\/a> conducted over the same time period showed South Carolina state representative Russell Fry up by 17 points against Rice with 42% of the vote. It surveyed 572 likely GOP primary voters and had a margin of error of 4%.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe thing is, everyone is lined up behind Russell Fry,\u201d Jain said, noting the number of endorsements Fry has received in the race. While Rice is supported by some anti-Trump figures, such as Republican Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, Fry has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myrtlebeachonline.com\/news\/politics-government\/article257968108.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">racked up<\/a> a number of state representative endorsements.<\/p>\n<p>If Rice loses, but Mace keeps her seat, the results would still be seen as a success for Trump and the power the former president\u2019s power continues to hold over the Republicans Party, experts told TheDCNF.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think probably Trump, more than anything else, wants to settle a score with those 10 Republicans who voted for his impeachment,\u201d Coleman told TheDCNF.<\/p>\n<p>Representatives for Mace, Rice, Fry and Trump did not respond to TheDCNF\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
