The money would have been due by June 30,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/omaha.com\/news\/state-and-regional\/govt-and-politics\/nebraska-school-board-group-cuts-ties-with-national-association\/article_20fa52dc-e758-11ec-a45e-0f06a12e525f.html#:~:text=Background,-Semi%2DTransparent&#038;text=The%20board%20of%20directors%20for,made%20against%20school%20board%20members.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to<\/a> the Omaha World-Herald.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Nebraska, <a href=\"https:\/\/defendinged.org\/press-releases\/state-school-board-associations-responses-to-the-nsba-letter\/#:~:text=As%20of%20December%208th%2C%2028,Ohio%2C%20Pennsylvania%2C%20South%20Carolina%2C\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">24 other states<\/a> have left the NSBA, including Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 30 states have distanced themselves from the national association since the September letter, according to Parents Defending Education, a nonprofit that <a href=\"https:\/\/defendinged.org\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">describes<\/a> itself as \u201ca national grassroots organization working to reclaim our schools from activists imposing harmful agendas,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NSBA board sent a letter in September asking federal law enforcement to investigate threats against school officials as domestic terrorism, including implementing the use of the Patriot Act.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs these acts of malice, violence, and threats against public school officials have increased, the classification of these heinous actions could be the equivalent to a form of domestic terrorism and hate crimes,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/education\/2022\/05\/21\/nsba-report-domestic-terrorism-parents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">letter<\/a> read in part.<\/p>\n<p>In a Texas <a href=\"https:\/\/nsba.org\/-\/media\/Files\/NSBA-Report.pdf?la=en&#038;hash=A001354D23C9AE88B54D398270C9790D91B01FF9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">independent investigation<\/a> prior to its departure from the NSBA in May, it was found that the NSBA had previously apologized for the letter. However, according to a Fox News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/texas-school-board-group-cuts-ties-nsba\">report<\/a>, interim CEO and executive director Chip Slaven \u201cwas behind the Letter, both in origin and substance\u201d and prematurely had exchanges with a senior education advisor at the White House on the letter\u2019s release.<\/p>\n<p>The Texas Association of School Boards determined that the apology was insufficient to change its decision to leave the national association, a move repeated by a growing number of states.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire previously\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/ben-sasse-and-others-want-ag-garland-back-in-hot-seat-the-fbi-should-be-going-after-mobsters-not-soccer-moms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> that Senate Republicans had called for Attorney General Merrick Garland to return to Capitol Hill to face additional questions about the Justice Department\u2019s role in addressing tensions between parents and school boards in November.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe remain deeply concerned that your October 4 Memorandum is being used by the DOJ and the FBI as a basis to pursue investigations against American parents for First Amendment-protected activities,\u201d the letter read.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Senate Judiciary GOP calls upon AG Merrick Garland to testify before them again: \u201cWe remain deeply concerned that your October 4 Memorandum is being used by the DOJ and the FBI as a basis to pursue investigations against American parents for First Amendment-protected activities.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/yMrnJ8iuCu\">pic.twitter.com\/yMrnJ8iuCu<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jerry Dunleavy (@JerryDunleavy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JerryDunleavy\/status\/1465491869949956099?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 30, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou stated that the \u2018purpose of this Memorandum is to get our law enforcement to assess the extent of the problem\u2019 and that the Memo \u2018comes before investigations.\u2019 When asked why the DOJ was treating parents at school boards as domestic terrorists, you said: \u2018[m]y Memo says nothing about domestic terrorism, says nothing about parents committing any such things,\u201d the letter continued.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nebraska Association of School Boards (NASB) has left the National School Boards Association (NSBA), making it the 25th state to exit.
