Wade.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hochul spoke regarding the legislation during a live stream as part of the signing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy friends, the sky is literally on the verge of falling in the next week or two and that\u2019s why we are here today,\u201d Hochul said in reference to the upcoming Supreme Court ruling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe right to control our own bodies is supposed to be settled by now, or so we thought,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation is intended \u201cto immediately protect abortion access and reproductive rights,\u201d according to Hochul.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I\u2019m in New York City signing legislation to immediately protect abortion access and reproductive rights. Not ever.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Governor Kathy Hochul (@GovKathyHochul) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovKathyHochul\/status\/1536387029558337536?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 13, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In another Twitter <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovKathyHochul\/status\/1536367005976080384\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">post<\/a>, Hochul referred to the legislation as \u201ca nation-leading legislative package to protect abortion and reproductive rights for all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hochul has previously expressed her support to offer state funding to abortion providers across the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Supreme Court is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade this month \u2013 but New York will be ready,\u201d Hochul said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/statement-governor-kathy-hochul-passage-new-legislation-protecting-abortion-access-new-york\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> earlier this month ahead of signing the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike the vast majority of Americans, I was horrified to learn that extremists on the court are likely to strip away the right to an abortion by overturning Roe. This decision, once announced, will have devastating consequences for the health, wellbeing and economic security of millions of women across this country,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation will provide $35 million in investments to abortion providers in New York.<\/p>\n<p>In May, Hochul also wrote an op-ed published by the Wall Street Journal to urge companies that want to support abortion rights to move to her state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe best way for companies to send the message that they value the health and well-being of their workers is to operate in a state that does as well.
