Then, as reporters and protestors watched, he took out pliers and attempted to break the key that went to the lock before throwing the key on the ground.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cI am not letting my daughter\u2019s rights be taken away by this unelected, unaccountable Supreme Court,\u201d he\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FordFischer\/status\/1533822434440359936\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">yelled<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0as he stood chained to the fence.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Before his exhibition, the pro-abortion protestor\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FordFischer\/status\/1533831438403088384\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">had tearfully explained<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0that he feared for his daughter\u2019s future ability to get an abortion, saying, \u201cI\u2019m just a dad, and I can\u2019t sit back while my daughter\u2019s rights are taken away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">After several warnings, police arrested Reichstadter and took him to a holding area in the Supreme Court building; the activist told The Daily Wire on Monday. He said they booked him, took mugshots, held him, and then transferred him to a central cell block.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cI stayed there overnight. I didn\u2019t know what was going to happen,\u201d he said outside the Supreme Court on Monday morning, where he was protesting with other members of the RiseUp4Abortion group.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">But to Reichstadter\u2019s surprise, the charges were dropped.<\/p>\n<p><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">TOPSHOT \u2013 A pro-choice demonstrator yells after chaining himself to the temporary security fencing outside the US Supreme Court in Washington, DC, on June 6, 2022. (Photo by STEFANI REYNOLDS\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cIn the morning, they gave me a pre-hearing interview, and I was supposed to have a hearing with a judge at 9 o\u2019clock, then they sent me back in the cell, and by 12 o\u2019clock, they let me know that the charges had been dropped.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Asked why the charges were dropped, the abortion activist suggested that D.C. authorities were doing \u201cdamage control.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cWhile I was [at] the bottom of the Supreme Court, I heard the police talking. They said, \u2018oh, this has gone viral on Twitter already,\u2019 so maybe it was the public perception that it\u2019s not a good look for the mayor to be imprisoning a father fighting for his daughter\u2019s rights,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Reichstadter claimed D.C. Mayor Muriel Bower was involved in getting the charges against him dropped, but her office did not respond to requests for comment from The Daily Wire. The Metropolitan Police Department told The Daily Wire that the Supreme Court police had handled the entire situation, and the Supreme Court police did not respond to multiple requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The U.S. Attorney\u2019s office, which would have handled dropping the charges, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cThere is a way to call the millions of passive supporters of abortion rights into active support capable of halting this attack,\u201d Reichstadter said in a June 9 Facebook post. \u201cIt\u2019s called nonviolent civil disobedience, and it was how the movement for civil rights in the U.S. was won. It involves hundreds and thousands of people voluntarily breaking the law, facing state repression, and going to jail.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">That post calls for more abortion activists to non-violently get themselves arrested.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cIf you can\u2019t sit back anymore on the sidelines while your loved one\u2019s rights are stripped away, please get in touch with me,\u201d he said in the post. \u201cWe have the power to stop this attack on women. We have the responsibility to organize ourselves to wield that power. We need supporters, volunteer organizers, and both arrestable and non-arrestable direct action team members (esp. arrestable ones).\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Facebook post.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In a joint statement issued Friday by U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves and Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI Washington Field Office Steven D\u2019Antuono,\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/fbi-warns-it-will-not-tolerate-violence-destruction-interference-in-d-c-or-at-the-supreme-court-as-roe-decision-looms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">authorities said<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0that they \u201care committed to protecting the First Amendment rights of all Americans to express their views peacefully during demonstrations that take place on a regular basis in the nation\u2019s capital, including at the Supreme Court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cWe also have a responsibility to ensure public safety and the orderly conduct of government business,\u201d the statement said. \u201cWe will not tolerate violence, destruction, interference with government functions, or trespassing on government property.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The joint statement also said that authorities are \u201ccommitted to working closely with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to stop any individuals who intend to commit violence or criminal activity under the guise of carrying out a demonstration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The warning comes after authorities arrested 26-year-old Nicholas John Roske of Simi Valley, California, near Supreme Court Justice\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/brett-kavanaugh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Brett Kavanaugh\u2019s<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0home on Wednesday. Roske allegedly said he\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/police-arrest-armed-man-near-brett-kavanaughs-home-who-allegedly-wanted-to-kill-the-justice-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">wanted to kill<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0the justice.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Roske found Kavanaugh\u2019s address online, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/quintessentially-american-western-terror-on-the-prairie-starring-gina-carano-debuts-june-14\">affidavit<\/a> said.
