Why is Speaker Pelosi blocking something that the Senate has already passed unanimously? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/rz11LysiS0\">https:\/\/t.co\/rz11LysiS0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Kevin McCarthy (@GOPLeader) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GOPLeader\/status\/1536379321966661633?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 13, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>McCarthy also drew on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi\u2019s Thursday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/pelosi-denies-request-to-immediately-pass-scotus-security-bill-house-will-vote-next-week\">claim<\/a> that\u00a0\u201cthe justices are protected,\u201d a remark that came only a few days after authorities arrested a man near\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/supreme-court\">Supreme Court<\/a>\u00a0Justice\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/brett-kavanaugh\">Brett Kavanaugh<\/a>\u2018s home who allegedly said he\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/police-arrest-armed-man-near-brett-kavanaughs-home-who-allegedly-wanted-to-kill-the-justice-report\">wanted to kill<\/a>\u00a0the justice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis issue is not about the justices, it\u2019s about staff and the rest,\u201d Pelosi said, explaining why the House would be voting on the Supreme Court security bill the following week. \u201cThe justices are protected; you saw the attorney general even double down on that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow can you make that statement the same week?\u201d demanded McCarthy, adding that Pelosi\u2019s statement \u201cmakes no sense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The GOP leader warned Democrats that if they change the Supreme Court security bill, sending it back to the Senate instead of passing it, \u201cthe country will know why.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCause if you change the bill and move it back to the Senate, you\u2019re trying to kill it,\u201d he said, emphasizing that every senator had voted for the security bill. \u201cYou\u2019re trying to delay it. That\u2019s exactly what you\u2019re doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you think something else needs to be added, run it by itself,\u201d he added. \u201cI think you\u2019re jeopardizing people\u2019s lives. I think you\u2019re jeopardizing the safety of the Supreme Court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn introduced the Supreme Court security bill on May 5 following the leak of a majority opinion draft indicating the justices would likely overturn <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The bill passed the Senate without amendment by unanimous consent on May 9 and has been stalled ever since.<\/p>\n<p>House Democrats reportedly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/house-democrats-stall-measure-boosting-security-scotus-justices-bill-law-clerks\">want the bill<\/a> to include protection for clerks and other Supreme Court staffers.<\/p>\n<p>When House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) asked House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) last week why leading Democrats had not put the bill to a vote, Hoyer responded that this was a \u201cvery relevant question.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully can move that as early as possible,\u201d he said,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/06\/09\/politics\/supreme-court-security-legislation-house-vote-pelosi\/index.html\">according<\/a>\u00a0to CNN. \u201cI want to tell the gentleman the reason he thought that it might be moving this morning was because last night I thought I had after discussions with Sen. Cornyn, a way forward both the Senate and the House could agree on.
