The 42-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/celebrities\">actress<\/a> made the announcement on Instagram Thursday, writing, \u201cI thought I was searching for a Disney Prince\u2026 but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess #loveislove,\u201d alongside a photo of herself smiling with girlfriend Ramona Agruma.<\/p>\n<p>One day later, Herald columnist Andrew Hornery wrote an article explaining how the paper had known about the relationship and contacted Wilson\u2019s reps with \u201can abundance of caution and respect\u201d to request a comment.<\/p>\n<p>Hornery seemed angry that Wilson chose to share her news on social media rather than giving that honor to the paper. The article has since been removed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a perfect world, \u2018outing\u2019 same-sex celebrity relationships should be a redundant concept in 2022. Love is love, right? As Rebel Wilson knows, we do not live in a perfect world,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/meghamohan\/status\/1535597084589670400\/photo\/1\">wrote<\/a> in the scrubbed opinion piece, according to screenshots posted on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">I\u2019ve just read this <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/smh?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@smh<\/a> piece 3 times to make sure that I wasn\u2019t misreading. The publication messaged Rebel Wilson saying they would out her in 2 days \u2013 and is now complaining that she chose to announce her relationship with a woman herself. Quite astonishing. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qiPZkYFmka\">pic.twitter.com\/qiPZkYFmka<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Megha Mohan (@meghamohan) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/meghamohan\/status\/1535597084589670400?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 11, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, it was an abundance of caution and respect that this media outlet emailed Rebel Wilson\u2019s representatives on Thursday morning, giving her two days to comment on her new relationship with another woman, LA leisure wear designer Ramona Agruma, before publishing a single word.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hornery said, \u201cWilson opted to gazump the story\u201d and that \u201cher choice to ignore our discreet, genuine and honest queries was, in our view, underwhelming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sydney Morning Herald Editor Bevan Shields <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2022\/06\/rebel-wilson-sydney-morning-herald-outing-controversy-1235044071\/\">defended<\/a> Hornery and the column, writing on Sunday, \u201cLike other mastheads do every day, we simply asked questions and as standard practice included a deadline for a response. I had made no decision about whether or what to publish, and the Herald\u2018s decision about what to do would have been informed by any response Wilson supplied.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As of Monday, Hornery <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/culture\/celebrity\/i-made-mistakes-over-rebel-wilson-and-will-learn-from-them-20220613-p5at9e.html\">apologized<\/a> for how he handled the situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is not the Herald\u2019s business to \u2018out\u2019 people and that is not what we set out to do. But I understand why my email has been seen as a threat. The framing of it was a mistake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The columnist continued, saying, \u201cThe tone of my column on Saturday was also off. I got it wrong. I allowed my disappointment to cast a shadow over the piece.
