As 2024 looms, a slew of Democrats hold strong doubts about Biden\u2019s ability to continue leading the country, The Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/06\/11\/us\/politics\/biden-2024-election-democrats.html\">wrote<\/a>, citing \u201cinterviews with nearly 50\u201d Democrats ranging from officials and lawmakers to voters.<\/p>\n<p>Steve Simeonidis, a Miami-based Democratic National Committee (DNC) member, told the newspaper that the president should announce he will not seek re-election \u201cright after the midterms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo say our country was on the right track would flagrantly depart from reality,\u201d Simeonidis said.<\/p>\n<p>David Axelrod, who served as former President Barack Obama\u2019s chief strategist for both presidential campaigns, expressed concern about Biden\u2019s age should he serve a second term. Axelrod called this \u201ca major issue\u201d but noted that Biden \u201cdoesn\u2019t get the credit he deserves for steering the country\u201d through various issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd part of the reason he doesn\u2019t [get credit] is performative,\u201d Axelrod said, according to The Times. \u201cHe looks his age and isn\u2019t as agile in front of a camera as he once was, and this has fed a narrative about competence that isn\u2019t rooted in reality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since taking office, Biden has suffered from multiple <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/joe-biden-gaffes-causing-white-house-communications-headache-1709991\">gaffes<\/a> and off-handed responses to the press that have prompted swift walk backs from the White House. Critics argue that these, coupled with sometimes nonsensical comments made during speeches, suggest the president is less <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/514093-marco-rubio-warns-that-joe-biden-gaffes-embolden-americas-enemies\/\">competent<\/a> given his age. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/22\/critics-mock-biden-cnn-town-hall\/\">(RELATED:\u00a0\u2018It\u2019s Like His Mouth Is Falling Down The Stairs\u2019: Critics Mock Biden\u2019s CNN Town Hall)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s age is certainly a factor in Democratic voters minds, according to The Times. Alex Wyshyvanuk, a 33-year-old from Maryland, noted that \u201ca younger person\u201d is needed to lead the country going forward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\"><span>\u201cI need an equivalent of Ron DeSantis, a Democrat, but not a 70- or 80-year-old \u2014 a younger person,\u201d he told the newspaper. \u201cSomeone who knows what worked for you in 1980 is not going to work for you in 2022 or 2024.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7449221\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7449221\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">FILE PHOTO: Former U.S. President Donald Trump stands with former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, left, before a meeting at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, U.S., November 20, 2016. With narrow control of the government, Biden has <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/11\/joe-manchin-filibuster-joe-biden\/\">not been<\/a> able to get certain Democratic senators, like Democratic West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, to support his agenda.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s also struggled with pleasing the more left-wing members of the Democratic Party who have different goals for the country. Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/12\/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-endorse-biden-cnn-dana-bash\/\">dodged<\/a> a question Sunday about supporting Biden in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the President chooses to run again in 2024\u201d Ocasio-Cortez told CNN after being pressed on whether she\u2019d back Biden. \u201cI mean, first of all, I\u2019m focused on winning the majority right now and preserving a majority this year in 2022, so we\u2019ll cross that bridge when we get to it. But I think if the President has a vision, then that\u2019s something certainly, we\u2019re all willing to entertain and examine when the time comes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think uh, we should endorse when we get to it. I believe that the President has been doing a very good job so far, and should he run again, I think that we\u2019ll take a look at it,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>The Times\u2019 article highlights what many polls taken since Biden began his presidency suggest. Biden\u2019s overall <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/20\/bidens-approval-rating-falls-26-hispanic-voters\/\">approval<\/a> rating is <a href=\"https:\/\/projects.fivethirtyeight.com\/biden-approval-rating\/\">underwater<\/a>, and voters are critical on his <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/05\/biden-approval-immigration-underwater-border-crisis-poll\/\">handling<\/a> of many issues plaguing the country.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats across the country also worry that Biden may not be able to beat former President Donald Trump in 2024, should both run again.
