The President accused Big Oil of exploiting supply shortages to boost profits.<\/p>\n<p>While addressing dockworkers at the port of Los Angeles on Friday, Biden claimed oil and gas companies are using the war in Ukraine to justify excessive price hikes. His finger pointing comes as the national average price of gas is $4.99 per gallon and is more than $5 a gallon in 19 states, according to AAA.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Joe Biden\u2019s America: <\/p>\n<p>\u202240-year high inflation<br \/>\u2022Record gas prices<br \/>\u2022Baby formula shortage<br \/>\u2022Disastrous border crisis<br \/>\u2022Crime surge <\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s policies have failed Americans.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 GOP (@GOP) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GOP\/status\/1536146081066647554?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 13, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>However, the President went into his typical \u201cwhisper mode\u201d to deflect responsibility away from his policies that have cancelled oil field leases and restricted drilling .<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cThey have 9000 permits to drill, they\u2019re not drilling. Why aren\u2019t they drilling?\u201d Biden asked. \u201cBecause they make more money not producing more oil. The price goes up, number one. And number two, the reason they\u2019re not drilling is they\u2019re buying back their own stock, which should be taxed, quite frankly. Buying back their own stock and making no new investments.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Exxon spokesperson Casey Norton responded to Biden\u2019s comments. He said the company has been in regular contact with the administration and laid out its plans to increase production as well as as expand refining capacity in the US.
