Our hearts go out to their families and friends as they cope with this tragedy,\u201d Maj. Gen. Bradford J. Gering, commanding general of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, said in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/3rdMAW\/posts\/340382691543775\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Capt. John J. Sax, 33, from Placer, California, was among those killed in the crash. He was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/ex-major-leaguer-stars-son-among-marines-dead-in-california-crash\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">son<\/a> of former\u00a0Major League Baseball star Steve Sax.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is with complete devastation that I announce that my precious son, Johnny was one of the five (5) US Marines that perished on Wednesday, June 8 in the Osprey Military crash near San Diego,\u201d said Sax. \u201cFor those of you that knew Johnny, you saw his huge smile, bright light, his love for his family, the Marines, the joy of flying airplanes and defending our country! He was my hero and the best man I know, there was no better person to defend our country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The four others killed in the accident included Capt. Nicholas P. Losapio, 31, of Rockingham, New Hampshire, and three tiltrotor crew chiefs: Cpl. Nathan E. Carlson, 21, of Winnebago, Illinois; Cpl. Seth D. Rasmuson, 21, of Johnson, Wyoming, and Lance Cpl. Evan A. Strickland, 19, of Valencia, New Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>On June 3, Navy Lt. Richard Bullock also died during a training mission\u00a0in Trona, California.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBullock was assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 113 based at Naval Air Station Lemoore, Calif., and was flying a routine training mission at the time before his aircraft when down in a remote, unpopulated area. No civilians were harmed as a result of this incident,\u201d according to the Navy\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.navy.mil\/Press-Office\/Press-Releases\/display-pressreleases\/Article\/3053097\/navy-identifies-pilot-killed-in-super-hornet-crash-near-trona-california\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe incident is currently under investigation and the scene of the crash is secured by Navy and local authorities while recovery efforts are ongoing,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>Four U.S. Marines were also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/four-u-s-marines-killed-in-norway-nato-training-identified\">killed<\/a>\u00a0in an Osprey\u00a0helicopter crash\u00a0during a NATO training exercise in Norway in March.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Navy announced a \u201csafety pause\u201d for non-deployed aircraft on Saturday following multiple recent military crashes in California.
