Carolyn Maloney (D- Upper East Side), State Sen. Brad Hoylman (D- Lower Manhattan), Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou (D- Chinatown), and Lt. Gov. contender Ana Mar\u00eda Archila,\u201d the outlet noted.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to protesting DeSantis over the Parental Rights in Education law, some argued that the governor should not be speaking at the event during Pride Month.<\/p>\n<p>Chelsea Piers released a statement on Friday noting its opposition to the governor\u2019s policies, though it continued to host the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the past 24 years, Pier Sixty has hosted hundreds of influential and notable events that span the spectrum of social and political issues. Pier Sixty has never controlled the content, program or speakers at these events,\u201d according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChelseaPiersNYC\/status\/1535303451692900354?s=20&#038;t=tXy-406rbPhc1hMTdMvvqQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving said that, we could not disagree more strongly with many of Ron DeSantis\u2019 actions in office. One response to abhorrent behavior is to counter it with positive action. Accordingly, Pier Sixty will direct every dollar it receives from Tikvah to groups that protect LGBTQ+ communities and foster and amplify productive debates about LGBTQ+ issues,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the vocal group of protesters outside of the venue on Sunday, the popularity of DeSantis has continued to grow among many Americans.<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis was included as one of Time magazine\u2019s \u201c100 Most Influential People\u201d list <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/florida-governor-ron-desantis-named-to-times-100-most-influential-people-list\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">released<\/a> in May.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/desantis-downplays-straw-polling-showing-him-besting-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> that a 2024 presidential election straw poll <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/s\/991p42nx07hlxnk\/Data_All_220604.pdf?dl=0\">conducted at the Western Conservative Summit<\/a>\u00a0in Colorado found that 71% approve of a DeSantis 2024 run, putting the Florida governor more than three points ahead of Trump.
