I\u2019ll do everything I can to protect against those who take advantage of and harm young Texans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Briggles, along with two other\u00a0families, had sued to block the child abuse investigations the state opened against them. That\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/22056166-2022-06-08-complaint\">lawsuit<\/a> was filed Wednesday in Travis County. They are the only family not filing under a pseudonym. The other families are going by the names\u00a0\u2018Roe\u2019 and \u2018Voe\u2019 in the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>All three families have children they allowed to transition from female to male-appearing.<\/p>\n<p>In the lawsuit, the Voes said their child attempted suicide, consuming a bottle of aspirin, the day the governor\u2019s order came down. The Voes later sought help from a psychiatric hospital for their child, they said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiving hormones or pubertal blockers can constitute child abuse,\u201d Assistant Attorney General Courtney Corbello said during Friday\u2019s hearing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs that true when the treatment is considered standard protocol and supported by every major medical organization in the United States?\u201d the judge retorted.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Amber Briggle accused the governor of playing election politics with the investigation into her family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis has been political since day one,\u201d she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/2022\/06\/08\/families-of-trans-children-file-new-lawsuit-against-texas-child-abuse-policy\/\">told<\/a> The Dallas Morning News.\u00a0\u201cThey\u2019re not going to close [our case] unless they\u2019re forced to by the courts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Briggles were recently <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BetoORourke\/status\/1524213538415386625\">treated<\/a> to a home-cooked Mother\u2019s Day dinner by\u00a0Beto O\u2019Rourke, who is running against Abbott for Texas governor. The Democratic candidate came to the house with groceries to make burgers, broccoli, and potatoes.<\/p>\n<p>The temporary restraining order granted Friday to the families applies to all members of LGBT advocacy group PFLAG, according to the families\u2019 attorneys. PFLAG has more than 600 members in Texas. Lambda Legal, as well as the ACLU of Texas, are representing the families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery one of these children and every one of these parents have experienced the fear, have experienced the harm,\u201d Lambda Legal attorney\u00a0Paul Castillo said at the hearing.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not clear yet if Texas will fight the order.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Texas judge on Friday granted a temporary restraining order to block the state\u00a0from investigating two\u00a0families with children who are claimed to be transgender.
