The complaint, supported by the Democratic Party of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/wisconsin\">Wisconsin<\/a>, was filed by Madison resident Jane Bernstein.<\/p>\n<p>Several on the commission said that Michels\u2019 future as governor should be left up to Wisconsin voters. They <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=3S9zFGf6yCo\">voted<\/a> 6-0 to dismiss the challenge from Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe people of Wisconsin won today. But this won\u2019t be the last obstacle Madison insiders throw my way,\u201d Michels <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/michelsforgov\/status\/1535357068512841728\/photo\/1\">said<\/a> in a statement following the vote. \u201cMy campaign has not lost a beat throughout this frivolous process. I am a fighter who is undeterred.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The controversy stemmed from a difference in voting and mailing address municipality on Michels\u2019 ballot petitions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile all of his petitions listed the same street address, the challenged petitions listed his municipality as the \u2018Village of Chenequa,\u2019 which is Michels\u2019 voting address. Michels\u2019 mailing address \u2014 the one recognized by the U.S. Postal Service \u2014 uses the municipality of Hartland,\u201d Wisconsin Public Radio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpr.org\/wisconsin-elections-commission-staff-recommends-dismissing-challenge-tim-michels-nominating\">explained<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Attorneys for Michels said that his mail would be delivered to the same place, regardless of municipality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Bernstein\u2019s fantasy land, meanwhile, there is only One, True Address for every residence, and no variation from it will result in delivery,\u201d Michels\u2019 attorneys said. \u201cIn reality, Wisconsinites from small towns without post offices receive mail every day that is addressed to their actual city or town of residence, even if it is not the city that USPS officially associates with their Zip Code.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The decision also followed the staff of the Wisconsin Election Commission recommending that Michels be kept on the ballot.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCandidates who provide reasonable evidence that either a mailing or residential address will, in and of itself, result in consistent mail delivery to the appropriate location have complied with the requirements of Wisconsin Statute,\u201d said Wisconsin Election Commission staff attorney Jim Witecha in a memo.<\/p>\n<p>Michels is looking to challenge incumbent Governor Tony Evers (D-WI) and faces a number of Republican rivals, including former Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, former Marine Kevin Nicholson, and State Rep. Tim Ramthun. The Republican primary is on August 9.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Michels received the endorsement of former President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring my Administration, Tim served on my infrastructure task force, and helped us plan and start building the Keystone XL Pipeline before Joe Biden launched his assault on American Energy production,\u201d Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2022-election\/trump-expected-upend-wisconsin-gop-primary-endorsing-tim-michels-rcna31765\">stated<\/a> at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Michels <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politifact.com\/factchecks\/2022\/jun\/08\/tim-michels\/gop-gubernatorial-candidate-michels-changes-course\/\">revised<\/a> his stance on the Wisconsin Election Commission last month, saying that he believed that the commission was \u201cnot salvageable\u201d after previously advocating to \u201cdramatically reform\u201d the \u00a0body.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Wisconsin Elections Commission voted on Friday to keep Trump-endorsed construction executive Tim Michels on the GOP ballot following a challenge from Democrats.
