Del Rio labeled\u00a0the events of January 6 as a \u201cdust up,\u201d ESPN\u2019s Adam Schefter <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AdamSchefter\/status\/1535323635061235713\">reported<\/a> Friday.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Del Rio was asked about a tweet from earlier in the week where he said he would love to understand the \u201cwhole story\u201d of what happened during the summer of 2020 and the riots sparked by the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBusinesses are being burned down, no problem and then we have a dust-up at the Capitol, nothing burned down and we\u2019re gonna make that a major deal,\u201d Del Rio said, answering questions about his tweet.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">More news out of Washington: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/j9kpxxMUQM\">pic.twitter.com\/j9kpxxMUQM<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AdamSchefter\/status\/1535323635061235713?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 10, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The former head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars and then Oakland Raiders went on to clarify his comment. \u201cI\u2019m being respectful. I just asked a simple question,\u201d he said. \u201cLet\u2019s get right down to it: What did I ask? A simple question. Why are we not looking into [the protests], if we\u2019re going to talk about [the Capitol riot]? Why are we not looking into those things?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Del Rio\u2019s tweet and comments comparing the Capitol riot to the riots sparked by George Floyd\u2019s death were too far for the Commanders, as they slapped him with a fine. The $100,000 fine will go to the U.S. Capitol Police Memorial fund, Commanders head coach Ron Rivera <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nfl\/news\/commanders-ron-rivera-fines-jack-del-rio-100k-after-meeting-over-extremely-hurtful-jan-6-comments\/\">said<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(Coach Del Rio\u2019s) comments do not reflect the organization\u2019s views and are extremely hurtful to our great community in the DMV,\u201d Rivera commented. \u201cAs we saw last night in the (Congress) hearings, what happened on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, was an act of domestic terrorism.
