Kelly be sentenced to 25 years in prison for his crimes of racketeering, bribery and sexual exploitation of a child, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/human-trafficking\">sexual trafficking<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A jury found the recording artist, whose full name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, guilty in September 2021 after a month-long trial that included no fewer than 50 separate witness testimonies, CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/09\/27\/us\/r-kelly-verdict\/index.html\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2022\/06\/09\/us\/r-kelly-federal-prosecutors-sentencing-recommendations\/index.html\">submitted their request<\/a> to the Eastern District of New York this week, noting the R&#038;B singer\u2019s \u201cdecades of crime\u201d and \u201ccallous disregard for the very real effects that his crimes had on his victims.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe defendant\u2019s decades of crime appear to have been fueled by narcissism and a belief that his musical talent absolved him of any need to conform his conduct \u2014 no matter how predatory, harmful, humiliating or abusive to others \u2014 to the strictures of the law,\u201d prosecutors <a href=\"https:\/\/s3.documentcloud.org\/documents\/22056415\/us-v-r-kelly-prosecution-sentencing-memo-6-8-2022.pdf\">wrote<\/a> in the filing.<\/p>\n<p>They said Kelly\u2019s \u201cactions were brazen, manipulative, controlling and coercive. He has shown no remorse or respect for the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPut simply, [Kelly\u2019s] crimes were calculated, methodical, and part [of] a long-standing pattern of using his platform as a larger-than-life musical persona and his deep network to gain access to teenagers, many of whom were particularly vulnerable, and then to exploit them for his personal gain and sexual gratification,\u201d prosecutors added.<\/p>\n<p>According to CNN, prosecutors are further seeking for Kelly to pay a fine anywhere from $50,000 to $250,000. They say he abused his position, noting how \u201cmusical talent absolved him of any need to conform his conduct \u2014 no matter how predatory, harmful, humiliating or abusive to others \u2014 to the strictures of the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Further, the filing seeks a harsh sentencing that will send a message to other famous people who would engage in crime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile the government doubts that the defendant will be deterred, a lengthy sentence of imprisonment will serve to deter others \u2014 including those with wealth, fame and the outsized power such status brings \u2014 from engaging in similar crimes,\u201d the document reads. \u201cThis is particularly so given the high-profile nature of the defendant and the likelihood that the length of his sentence will be widely publicized.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reuters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/us-says-convicted-rb-singer-r-kelly-deserves-more-than-25-years-prison-2022-06-08\/\">noted<\/a> that Kelly\u2019s attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, asked the court for a sentence of fewer than 14 years for his crimes.<\/p>\n<p>Kelly\u2019s sentencing is scheduled for June 29.<\/p>\n<p>Even if the singer does get a lighter sentence for this conviction, he\u2019s due to stand trial again in August on charges \u201cthat he produced child pornography, enticed children into sex acts and that he and two former employees conspired to fix his 2008 trial in Illinois,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/10\/20\/arts\/music\/r-kelly-trial-date-chicago.html\">according<\/a> to The New York Times.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prosecutors filed a 31-page document demanding that singer R.
