The shelter is funded by the United Nations and a New York-based LGBT nonprofit that gets most of its funding from New York state and the federal government.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201ccultural exchange,\u201d hosted by St. Joseph Catholic Parish together with St. Patrick\u2019s Catholic Church, will celebrate LGBT stories and discuss the work of the Anglican Diocese of El Salvador in advancing LGBT rights. The encounter welcomes all \u201cbi, trans, straight, and cis\u201d participants, and will feature a half-hour segment on \u201cqueer liturgy and commemorative activity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to its website, the Santa Marta Center, founded by the Sexual Diversity Ministry of the Episcopal Church of El Salvador, provides support and shelter for vulnerable LGBT youth and young adults in a country that remains \u201cvery hostile to LGBTIQ+ people.\u201d The center is named for Saint Martha, who in Luke\u2019s gospel \u201cprovides hospitality to Jesus while her sister Mary challenges gender roles and \u2026 cis-heteronormativity.\u201d The ministry team <a href=\"https:\/\/www.episcopalanglicanasv.org\/our-story\">cites<\/a> the story of Martha and Mary as an example of how \u201cJesus liberates us from society\u2019s expectations of gender.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>St. Joseph\u2019s, a parish run by Jesuit priests, is also throwing an \u201cafter Mass pride picnic\u201d on the last weekend of June for all families, friends, LGBT folks, and allies.<\/p>\n<h2>Contrary to Scripture<\/h2>\n<p>The parish\u2019s messaging defies Holy Scripture, the express teachings of Saints Peter and Paul, and 2000-plus years of Catholic Church doctrine. It violates the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which explains that the sixth commandment encompasses \u201cthe whole of human sexuality.\u201d The catechism <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scborromeo.org\/ccc\/p3s2c2a6.htm\">states<\/a> that \u201ceveryone, man and woman, should acknowledge and accept his sexual\u00a0identity,\u201d explaining that \u201cin creating men \u2018male and female,\u2019 God gives man and woman an equal personal dignity\u2026 though in a different way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The document clarifies that men and women with deep-seated homosexual tendencies should be \u201caccepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity.\u201d It insists, however, on the church\u2019s biblically founded teaching that homosexual acts themselves are acts of \u201cgrave depravity,\u201d \u201cintrinsically disordered,\u201d \u201ccontrary to natural law,\u201d and \u201cunder no circumstances can they be approved.\u201d The catechetical tradition also recalls that \u201cthe sin of Sodom\u201d is one of the four sins that, according to the Bible, cry out to heaven for vengeance.<\/p>\n<p>The morally fluid Jesuits and their episcopalian companions don\u2019t have to like the church\u2019s teaching on human sexuality, but it\u2019s catholic, biblical, immutable, and unequivocal.<\/p>\n<h2>Pope Francis\u2019s History of Mixed Signals<\/h2>\n<p>Unfortunately, fellow Jesuit Pope Francis has had a strong hand in muddying what should be pristine waters. In 2021, the Vatican\u2019s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/press.vatican.va\/content\/salastampa\/it\/bollettino\/pubblico\/2021\/03\/15\/0157\/00330.html#ing\">statement<\/a> confirming that the \u201cChurch does not have, and cannot have, the power to bless\u201d same-sex unions, as God \u201cdoes not bless sin.\u201d The Congregation\u2019s response was consistent with the body\u2019s 2003 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vatican.va\/roman_curia\/congregations\/cfaith\/documents\/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20030731_homosexual-unions_en.html\">conclusion<\/a> against approval of or legal recognition of homosexual unions, in which it emphasized that \u201cno ideology can erase from the human spirit the certainty that marriage exists solely between a man and a woman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yet last year\u2019s increasingly rare display of clarity and orthodoxy must be considered amid a decade of mixed signals and confusion on gay and transgender issues. This has allowed a noxious culture of freelance Catholicism on matters of morality to take root and overwhelm the Church hierarchy.<\/p>\n<p>In a 2013 press conference, Francis infamously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/08\/27\/opinion\/pope-francis-catholic-church-letter.html\">responded<\/a>, \u201cWho am I to judge?\u201d when asked about Monsignor Battista Ricca, an Italian cleric and former Vatican diplomat <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncregister.com\/news\/vaticanista-publishes-lurid-tale-surrounding-vatican-bank-appointee\">appointed<\/a>\u00a0by Francis to a position of oversight at the Vatican Bank. While stationed in Uruguay between 1999 and 2004, Ricca was allegedly living with a man, a former Swiss Army captain, and reportedly got into a number of scrapes involving homosexual encounters.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, Francis made <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/46295\/pope-francis-calls-for-civil-union-law-for-same-sex-couples-in-shift-from-vatican-stance\">comments<\/a> seemingly in support of civil unions for same-sex couples in an interview for \u201cFrancesco,\u201d a documentary about his life. Last year he praised the work of pro-LGBT New Ways Ministry, an organization that promotes \u201can intersectional understanding of gender identity and sexuality.\u201d He penned a personal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newwaysministry.org\/2021\/12\/09\/pope-francis-writes-to-new-ways-ministry-thank-you-for-your-neighborly-work\/\">letter<\/a> to co-founder Sister Jeannine Gramick, who in 1999 was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vatican.va\/roman_curia\/congregations\/cfaith\/documents\/rc_con_cfaith_doc_19990531_gramick-nugent-notification_en.html\">disciplined<\/a> by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, then led by Cardinal Ratzinger, for \u201cdoctrinally unacceptable\u201d positions on homosexuality, and the \u201cpromotion of errors and ambiguities inconsistent [sic] with a Christian attitude of true respect and compassion.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Promoting LGBT Allies<\/h2>\n<p>Francis also has a conspicuous record of rewarding prominent pro-LGBT prelates with cushy gigs. In 2019 he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2019\/04\/04\/us\/gregory-dc-archbishop\/index.html\">promoted<\/a> then-Archbishop of Atlanta Wilton D. Gregory to the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., the old haunt of the disgraced serial predator, former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick. The year before, a group of concerned Catholics in the archdiocese of Atlanta had launched a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2018\/08\/28\/concerned-catholics-group-petitions-archbishop-to-remove-lgbt-activist-priests-from-ministry\/\">petition<\/a> demanding that Gregory disassociate the archdiocese and its institutions from organizations and events that openly endorse the LGBT behavior and politics, and reinforce and uphold church teaching on marriage, family, and human sexuality. Gregory was elevated to the college of cardinals in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>LGBT sympathizer and Archbishop of Chicago Cardinal Blase J. Cupich was similarly just bestowed a <a href=\"https:\/\/cruxnow.com\/vatican\/2022\/06\/pope-names-members-to-worship-congregation\">membership<\/a> position in the Vatican\u2019s Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. Cupich had no problem with the city\u2019s openly gay, non-Catholic mayor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifesitenews.com\/news\/lesbian-mayor-takes-holy-communion-at-mass-said-by-card-cupich\/\">receiving<\/a> the Holy Eucharist at a funeral service for a slain police officer. <\/p>\n<p>Cardinal Kevin J. Farrell, McCarrick\u2019s former roomy in Washington, D.C., who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifesitenews.com\/news\/francis-appointed-cardinals-back-jesuits-pro-lgbt-book\/\">endorsed<\/a> Jesuit Priest Father James Martin\u2019s book on the church\u2019s relationship with the LGBT community, was in 2016 made prefect of the newly established Dicastery for Laity, the Family and Life, subsequently made a cardinal, and this week <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/251471\/cardinal-farrell-to-lead-vatican-investment-oversight-committee\">appointed<\/a> to chair a new committee overseeing Vatican investments. \u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Schism over Sexuality<\/h2>\n<p>Then there\u2019s the Vatican\u2019s failure to rebuke the German bishops, who are in open rebellion against the church over its teaching on sexuality. In February this year, Archbishop of Luxembourg Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich (another Jesuit) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncronline.org\/news\/quick-reads\/top-eu-cardinal-calls-change-church-teaching-gay-relationships\">stated<\/a> that \u201cthe sociological-scientific foundation of this teaching is no longer correct.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>In March, Archbishop of Munich and Freising Cardinal Reinhard Marx <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncregister.com\/cna\/cardinal-marx-celebrates-mass-marking-20-years-of-queer-worship-and-pastoral-care\">celebrated<\/a> a Mass marking \u201c20 years of queer worship and pastoral care.\u201d Chairman of the German Catholic bishops\u2019 conference Bishop Georg B\u00e4tzing of Limburg <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/250573\/german-catholic-bishops-leader-calls-for-change-to-catechism-on-sexuality\">argued<\/a> that sex outside marriage and same-sex relationships are permissible, the catechism should be updated to reflect this, and that in any case \u201chow someone lives their personal intimacy is none of his [sic] business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Australian Cardinal George Pell <a href=\"https:\/\/edwardpentin.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/K-TV11032022.pdf\">called<\/a> on Rome \u201cto intervene and pronounce judgement on the wholesale and explicit rejection of the Church\u2019s teaching on sexual ethics.\u201d German Cardinal Gerhard M\u00fcller <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifesitenews.com\/blogs\/cardinal-muller-seconds-cardinal-pells-request-to-vatican-to-defend-catholicism-against-german-bishops\/\">supported<\/a> Pell\u2019s demand that the Vatican take action, insisting that \u201cheretical bishops must not be obeyed, and every Catholic is called upon to bear witness to the truth against them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In April, more than 70 bishops from around the world, 49 of them U.S. bishops, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncregister.com\/cna\/breaking-bishops-sign-letter-warning-that-germany-s-synodal-path-could-lead-to-schism\">signed<\/a> a letter warning of schism. They argued that the German so-called Synodal Path \u201cdisplays more submission and obedience to the world and ideologies than to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Well may these well-intentioned bishops exhort, as Cardinal Pell put it, a rediscovery of the promises of Jesus, and an embrace of the \u201cundiminished deposit of faith.\u201d But as long as Pope Francis persists with his mischievous \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaticannews.va\/en\/pope\/news\/2022-05\/pope-letter-fr-martin-lgtb-outreach-questions.html\">God doesn\u2019t disown anyone<\/a>\u201d guilt trips, instead of urging, in adherence to the Catechism, self-mastery, chastity, prayer, union to the Cross of Christ, and sacramental grace, the heresies will multiply, deceiving countless Catholics along the way.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To describe this as a top-down problem that requires a top-down solution doesn\u2019t begin to convey the sort of invasive surgery required to remove this malignant growth. In the meantime, it\u2019s no wonder that a notoriously woke Seattle parish is organizing \u2014 presumably while Seattle Archbishop Paul D. Etienne looks the other way \u2014 LGBT-affirming ecumenical encounters, pride picnics, and rainbow cookies for its deluded parishioners. <\/p>\n<p>After all, when defiant U.S. bishops are promoted, and German prelates face no consequence for their full-fledged heresy, the pernicious \u201clove wins\u201d message is heard loud and clear by the clergy \u2014 faithful and apostates alike.\u00a0<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Carina Benton is a dual citizen of Australia and Italy and a permanent resident of the United States.
