The wholesale egg prices are currently 11.2% higher than last year, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/avocados-5-more-popular-grocery-110018326.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GOBankingRates<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A June 6 Facebook post claims the price of eggs will soon go up even more. \u201cUSDA is predicting egg prices will be $12.00 a dozen by Fall 2022,\u201d reads the post. The same claim was <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/patriotcorners1\/status\/1533998618419548160\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">shared<\/a>\u00a0on Twitter. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/11\/17\/fact-check-germany-ad-food-insecurity-america\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did Germany Make This Ad About Food Insecurity In America?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This claim is false. None of the USDA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usda.gov\/media\/press-releases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">press releases<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=dozen%20eggs%20(from%3AUSDA)&#038;src=typed_query&#038;f=top\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social media<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/profile\/100064560259181\/search\/?q=dozen%20eggs%20%2412\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">posts<\/a> assert that a dozen eggs will soon cost $12. There are likewise no <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=USDA+dozen+eggs+%2412&#038;oq=USDA+dozen+eggs+%2412&#038;aqs=chrome..69i57j33i160l2.7393j0j7&#038;sourceid=chrome&#038;ie=UTF-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">credible news reports<\/a> about the department making such a forecast.<\/p>\n<p>USDA Economic Research Service (ERS) Communications Director Jennifer Smits told Check Your Fact in an email that the \u201cERS does not have retail egg prices.\u201d Smits pointed Check Your Fact to the USDA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usda.gov\/oce\/commodity\/wasde\/wasde0522.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.usda.gov\/oce\/commodity\/wasde\/wasde0522.pdf&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1654742074401000&#038;usg=AOvVaw20y8m_sxJVNUxL4axnTA8k\">World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates<\/a> from May, which projects the wholesale price of a dozen eggs will rise to $1.70 in the final quarter of 2022.
