Jerry Nadler of New York, which sought to raise the purchasing age of people buying <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/08\/house-passes-bill-raising-age-for-semi-automatic-gun-ownership-to-21\/\">semi-automatic rifles to 21<\/a>, mandate gun owners store their firearms in a safe and increase regulation on bump stocks. Republican Reps. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/02\/25\/three-republicans-voted-approve-equality-act-brian-fitzpatrick-john-katko-tom-reed-list\/\">Brian Fitzpatrick<\/a>\u00a0of Pennsylvania,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/17\/trump-anthony-gonzalez-house-republican-impeach-statement\/\">Anthony Gonzalez<\/a>\u00a0of Ohio,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/27\/republican-support-assault-weapons-ban\/\">Chris Jacobs<\/a>\u00a0of New York,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2018\/12\/19\/christopher-steele-dossier-paul-ryan\/\">Adam Kinzinger<\/a>\u00a0of Illinois and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/07\/donald-trump-endorses-steve-carra-over-incumbent-fred-upton-michigan-congress\/\">Fred Upton\u00a0<\/a>of Michigan joined Democrats in voting to pass the bill.<\/p>\n<p>Party leaders agreed to break up the bill and vote by separate provisions to retain bipartisan support,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/news\/house\/3516366-two-democrats-vote-against-advancing-gun-legislation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a>\u00a0to The Hill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy side is not coming forward with reasonable ways to defend an amendment that we think is very important,\u201d Kinzinger\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/kinzinger.house.gov\/news\/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=402958\">said<\/a>\u00a0in a press release. \u201cI\u2019m looking at this going, \u2018Fine, if people are going to put forward solutions about certifying maybe who can buy an assault weapon, I\u2019m certainly open to that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kinzinger\u2019s office directed The Daily Caller News Foundation to the press release when asked for additional comment.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6525727\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-6525727\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">WASHINGTON, DC \u2013 DECEMBER 08: Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI) speaks during an event marking the passage of the 21st Century Cures Act at the U.S. Capitol December 8, 2016 in Washington, DC.\u00a0 (Photo by Win McNamee\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Upton said he supported several robust gun safety measures to keep his community safe.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/09\/government-to-save-me-gun-rights-gun-control-fiery-testimony\/\"><b>(RELATED: \u2018Don\u2019t Need The Government To Save Me\u2019: Gun Rights Activist Shoots Down Gun Control Laws In Fiery Testimony)<\/b><br \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Protect Our Kids Act and the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act \u2013 also known as red flag \u2013 are commonsense bills that will make our communities safer without infringing on our 2nd Amendment Rights,\u201d Upton\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/upton.house.gov\/news\/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=402071\">said<\/a>\u00a0in a statement. \u201cWhile I don\u2019t agree with every provision, we can\u2019t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Upton\u2019s office directed TheDCNF to his statement when asked for additional comment.<\/p>\n<p>Gonzalez\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/anthonygonzalez.house.gov\/news\/documentquery.aspx?DocumentTypeID=27\">defended<\/a>\u00a0his vote in a press release where he argued that the Protecting Our Kids Act kept guns out of the hands of the wrong people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur policies should support responsible gun ownership,\u201d Gonzalez said. \u201cWe must protect mentally healthy, law abiding citizens\u2019 right to protect and defend themselves, their families, their homes and their communities, and we must also prevent mentally ill individuals and criminals from gaining access to firearms and causing harm to others.
