However, they said that in order to defray those costs, they were calling on state lawmakers to approve a budget increase of $2.8 million.<\/p>\n<p>According to Gas Buddy \u2014 an app that tracks gas prices across the country to help consumers find the nearest gas stations as well as the lowest available prices in a given area \u2014 the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/gas-prices-hit-grim-national-average-of-5-per-gallon\/\">national average surpassed $5<\/a> per gallon on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">NEWS: The national average price of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/gas?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#gas<\/a> in the U.S. has officially surpassed $5 per gallon this morning \u2013 the highest ever recorded. The company\u2019s head of petroleum analysis, Patrick De Haan explained, \u201cIt\u2019s been one kink after another this year, and worst of all, demand doesn\u2019t seem to be responding to the surge in gas prices, meaning there is a high probability that prices could go even higher in the weeks ahead. It\u2019s a perfect storm of factors all aligning to create a rare environment of rapid price hikes.
