Bennie Thompson, a 74-year-old Democrat representing Mississippi\u2019s 2nd Congressional District, made the comments in 2014 while appearing on a New Nation of Islam radio program during Barack Obama\u2019s presidency. He has not responded to requests for comment from The Daily Wire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been in Washington. I saw three presidents now. I never saw George Bush treated like this. I never saw Bill Clinton treated like this with such disrespect,\u201d Thompson said, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzfeednews.com\/article\/andrewkaczynski\/democratic-congressman-makes-shocking-racial-comments-about\">Buzzfeed News reported at the time<\/a>. \u201cThat Mitch McConnell would have the audacity to tell the president of the United States \u2014 not the chief executive, but the commander-in-chief \u2014 that \u2018I don\u2019t care what you come up with we\u2019re going to be against it.\u2019 Now if that\u2019s not a racist statement I don\u2019t know what is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd there\u2019s Uncle Tom, Clarence Thomas,\u201d he said, prompting the host to laugh and distance himself from the remark, saying, \u201cYou said that, I didn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s almost to the point to say this man doesn\u2019t even like black people, he doesn\u2019t like being black,\u201d he said as they discussed Thomas, the Supreme Court, and affirmative action, according to Buzzfeed. \u201cBecause every decision where color had something to do with it, he went against it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes sir,\u201d responded the host. \u201cThat man don\u2019t care nothing about us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after Thompson made the remarks, he was pressed by CNN to address whether \u201cUncle Tom\u201d was a racially charged term. But the Mississippi Democrat stood by his remarks rather than backing down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor some it is, but to others it\u2019s the truth,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/onpolitics\/2014\/04\/30\/bennie-thompson-clarence-thomas-uncle-tom\/81226252\/\">responded<\/a>, before critiquing Thomas\u2019 vote on voter identification and affirmative action Supreme Court cases.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cThe people that I represent, for the most part, have a real issue with those decisions,\u201d added Thompson. \u201cAll those issues are very important and for someone in the court who\u2019s African-American and not sensitive to that is a real problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thompson is the chairman of the committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. The committee will air its first public hearing during primetime on Thursday at 8 pm ET.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers on the House\u2019s Jan. 6 committee have hired the former president of ABC News, James Goldston, to promote its findings as a \u201cblockbuster investigative special,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/newsletters\/axios-am-047a583d-c615-4c68-8351-eb4cf5698698.html?chunk=0&#038;utm_term=twsocialshare#story0\">Axios reported earlier this week<\/a>. Goldston reportedly\u00a0intends to make the findings \u201craw\u201d enough that journalists will deem them credible but also sensational enough to capture the attention of Americans who have not followed the matter closely.<\/p>\n<p>Our democracy is at stake,\u201d Thompson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/06\/03\/politics\/bennie-thompson-chair-january-6-investigation-voting-rights\/index.html\">told CNN<\/a> of the investigation. \u201cWe have to defend our democracy.
