Owens is standing next to teammate Ralph Metcalfe in the original photo.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Instagram <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CeUlvS3K_iM\/?utm_source=ig_embed&#038;ig_rid=6b1f2d5f-8439-487a-b90d-e7065454d8cb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">post<\/a>, liked over 340 times, appears to show Owens and Hitler smiling and posing for a photo together. \u201cJesse Owens and Adolf Hitler during the Olympics,\u201d reads text included in the image. The post then attributes the following quote to Owens: \u201cHitler didn\u2019t snub me; it was our president Roosevelt who snubbed me. The president didn\u2019t even send me a telegram.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The photo is a digital combination of two separate pictures. The original picture of Owens, taken in 1936 at Randall\u2019s Island Stadium in New York, shows him standing beside his teammate Metcalfe, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/detail\/news-photo\/jesse-owens-of-ohio-state-and-ralph-metcalfe-of-the-news-photo\/515567600?adppopup=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Getty Images<\/a>. \u201cJesse Owens of Ohio State, and Ralph Metcalfe of the Marquette Club, after they had finished in one-two order, respectively, in the 100 meter event at the final Olympic track and field tryouts,\u201d the photo\u2019s description reads.<\/p>\n<p>Owens would go on to win four gold medals at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany, an event overseen by Hitler, according to the official Olympics <a href=\"https:\/\/olympics.com\/en\/athletes\/jesse-owens\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The original image of Hitler is from 1939 in Germany-occupied Poland, according to the stock image website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alamy.com\/image-details-popup.asp?imageid=%7B7A16C91C-2EA5-45DD-A726-9737668EF2F0%7D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alamy<\/a>. Owens told a crowd of 1,000 African-Americans in Kansas City, Missouri after his Olympic victory that \u201cHitler didn\u2019t snub me\u2014it was [Roosevelt] who snubbed me. The president didn\u2019t even send me a telegram,\u201d according to the book, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=92mPBAAAQBAJ&#038;pg=PA233#v=onepage&#038;q&#038;f=false\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nazi Games: The Olympics of 1936<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Hitler did not personally congratulate Owens, they exchanged celebratory waves on August 3, 1936 following the 100-meter dash, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/story\/was-jesse-owens-snubbed-by-adolf-hitler-at-the-berlin-olympics#:~:text=Roosevelt.,competed%20at%20the%20Berlin%20Olympics.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Britannica<\/a>.
