Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York excoriated firearms manufacturers over profits from firearms sales during a hearing Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is about blood money,\u201d Ocasio-Cortez said. \u201cBetween 2019 and 2021, two years, leading gun manufacturers Sturm and Ruger saw gross profits double to almost $280 million. In fact, during an earnings call, their CEO called the sales boom, \u2018historic, ferocious, and that the future was bright.\u2019 A month after that, an AR-556 pistol murdered ten people at a supermarket in Boulder, Colorado.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/23\/boulder-colorado-shooting-victims-ahmad-alissa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">mass shooting<\/a> in a supermarket in Boulder killed 10 people in March 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Ocasio-Cortez asked Nick Suplina, senior vice president for law and policy at Everytown for Gun Safety, what the profits were used for. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/29\/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-democrats-2022-midterms\/\">(RELATED: Even Rep. Ocasio-Cortez Can Read The Writing On The Wall For Democrats In 2022)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are lobbying against every law that would regulate firearms, period,\u201d Suplina said, listing expanded background checks and \u201cred flag\u201d laws as some of the measures firearms companies have opposed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) estimated that 5.4 million Americans became new gun owners in 2021, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/government-relations\/impact\/\">report<\/a> issued in March.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Congresswoman is protected by firearms on Capitol Hill which are produced by the same manufacturers producing firearms for law-abiding citizens to exercise their Second Amendment rights,\u201d NSSF spokesman Mark Oliva told The Daily Caller News Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongresswoman Ocasio-Cortez reveals her anger isn\u2019t for an industry that produces a Constitutionally-protected product but for the millions of Americans who choose to exercise their Second Amendment rights every year,\u201d Oliva added. \u201cThat includes the over 14 million Americans that purchased a firearm for the first time in 2020 and 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ruger, Ocasio-Cortez and Everytown for Gun Safety did not immediately respond to requests for comment from TheDCNF.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
