The attorney general refuted the claim.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Facebook post, shared over 40,000 times, relays a purported message from the Michigan attorney general\u2019s office that warns of new tactics \u201cgangs and thieves\u201d are using to lure people out of their cars.<\/p>\n<p>The post claims the criminals will place a fake baby in a car seat by the road and wait for a woman to stop and investigate, at which point they \u201cwill be dragged into the woods, beaten and raped, and usually left for dead. If it\u2019s a man, they\u2019re usually beaten and robbed and maybe left for dead, too.\u201d The message also warns of gangs hitting cars with eggs in an attempt to get people to pull over.<\/p>\n<p>There is no evidence the attorney general\u2019s office released such a warning. There are no <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/ag\/news\/press-releases#q=fake%20babies&#038;e=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">press releases<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=car%20seat%20(from%3AMIAttyGen)&#038;src=typed_query&#038;f=top\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=car%20seat%20(from%3AMIAttyGen)&#038;src=typed_query&#038;f=top\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">media<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/profile\/100053981340241\/search\/?q=flashing%20red%20light\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">posts<\/a> from the office documenting any of the alleged incidents referenced in the Facebook post.
