The actual article from The Guardian refers to the trial as \u201can orgy of misogyny,\u201d not a \u201cfemale Holocaust.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>A jury recently ruled in Depp\u2019s favor in a defamation lawsuit he filed against Heard, his ex-wife, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/pop-culture\/pop-culture-news\/johnny-depp-amber-heard-trial-verdict-rcna30926\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NBC News<\/a>. He is to be awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>One Facebook <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/627814067675451\/posts\/1465816830541833\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">post<\/a> appears to show a screenshot of a June 1 article written by The Guardian\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/profile\/moira-donegan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Moira Donegan<\/a> titled, \u201cThe Amber Heard-Johnny Depp trial was the female Holocaust.\u201d The formatting of the article matches that of The Guardian.<\/p>\n<p>The image has been altered. A keyword search revealed that Donegan did write a June 1 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2022\/jun\/01\/amber-heard-johnny-depp-trial-metoo-backlash\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">article<\/a> about the trial, but it did not have that title. Rather, the story was titled, \u201cThe Amber Heard-Johnny Depp trial was an orgy of misogyny.\u201d The post was shared on The Guardian\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/guardian\/status\/1532115188035502080\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter<\/a> account and can be seen in <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220601204001\/https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2022\/jun\/01\/amber-heard-johnny-depp-trial-metoo-backlash\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">online archives<\/a>. There is no indication the headline was changed at any point.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Facebook post shared is not a published Guardian headline or image,\u201d a spokesperson for The Guardian told Check Your Fact in an email. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/06\/06\/fact-check-amber-heard-perjury-cocaine-arrest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Has Amber Heard Been Arrested For Perjury And Cocaine Possession?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Donegan responded to the photoshopped headline on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MoiraDonegan\/status\/1532700734202036225?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1532700734202036225%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.reuters.com%2Farticle%2FidUSL1N2XT1IF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter<\/a>, stating, \u201cSomeone photoshopped a fake headline for my piece about the Depp trial to make it look incendiary and dumb, and now it\u2019s gone viral as fact and lots of credulous Depp supporters are yelling at me about it.
