It\u2019s just, like, so what am I supposed to do? Like they sell merchandise and everything. I kind of would like to get royalties on that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A 2024 presidential election straw poll <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/s\/991p42nx07hlxnk\/Data_All_220604.pdf?dl=0\">conducted at the Western Conservative Summit<\/a> in Colorado found that 71% approve of a DeSantis 2024 run, putting the Florida governor more than three points ahead of Trump. Meanwhile, that survey found that no other candidate had drawn even 30% support.<\/p>\n<p>Another 2024 straw poll <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wispolitics.com\/2022\/wispolitics-com-wisconsin-state-gop-convention-goers-split-on-another-trump-run-plurality-supports-desantis-for-24-presidential-nomination\/\">conducted at the Wisconsin Republican Convention<\/a> found that DeSantis received nearly 38% of the vote, leaving Trump six points behind.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no real party standard-bearer at the moment, and DeSantis in many eyes is starting to define the post-Trump party,\u201d GOP operative Tyler Sandberg, who is based in Colorado, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/06\/07\/trump-desantis-00037538\">told POLITICO<\/a>. \u201cHe fights more about policy and less on his Twitter account.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt did not surprise me that DeSantis did well, but, yeah, it kind of surprised me that he did better than President Trump, again,\u201d Dick Wadhams, another veteran Colorado GOP consultant who is the former chair of that state\u2019s Republican Party, told the publication. \u201cI go to a lot of Republican events and have sensed for some time that even with Republicans DeSantis has quite an appeal because of his success as governor of Florida.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The governor\u2019s popularity with conservatives is rising nationally \u2014 and this is the second year in a row that he has topped Trump at the Western Conservative Summit, known as\u00a0\u201cthe largest gathering of conservatives in the Western United States,\u201d POLITICO noted.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, Trump spokesperson Taylor Budowich told POLITICO that Trump has \u201cunprecedented strength\u201d and that his support has never been higher.<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis has repeatedly refrained from addressing 2024 or pitting himself against Trump, insisting\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/09\/ron-desantis-donald-trump-2024\/\">during a June 2021 interview<\/a> with The Daily Caller News Foundation that he\u2019s focused on Florida.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis downplayed a new straw poll showing him outperforming former President Donald Trump, sidestepping questions about the results. \u201cI don\u2019t do straw polls,\u201d he said Wednesday. \u201cThey just put my name into these things, you know?
